Well, I took the plunge and upgraded all the interior lights to Bright white led's (my personal preference). 2 x visor mirrors, 4 x footwell, 4 x door bottoms, 4 x courtesy lights in the roof and 2 x tailgate lights. All were 501 wedges apart from the rear courtesy lights and the visor mirror lights which were festoon types. I also did the number plate lights which were also 501's.

I didn't think the numberplate bulbs could be replaced by LEDs without CANBUS issues?

You can use VCDS to change the numberplatelights to LED. Think the LED bulb must be "CANBUS ready" 

Done it myself, no bulberror warning.

Is that just on the FL or earlier models too?

Pre F/L models throw the warning up despite using CANBUS bulbs (which are also festoon bulbs on the pre F/L)

Not if you tick of the box for LED in VCDS. Byte 17,Bit 7

Ticking that box did nothing on my MY11 Superb, a MY12 Superb I coded and several F/L Octavia's.

We're your numberplate bulbs 501's (W5W's) individual?

Mine were still festoons (37mm iirc)
