USB/SD Card upgrade on 2008 MkII Octavia VRS with Stream MP3 on the cheap?

Featured Replies

I appreciate that I could upgrade to a newer HU, but I'm just wanting to keep it simple and inexpensive if possible!

I've currently got a Stream MP3 fitted with a 6CD autochanger in the boot and an AUX socket in the centre console, I've tried using the AUX in with an old MP3 player and the sound quality's fine, but I'd like something that I can control with my existing HU.

I've got an older Parrot kit installed so I don't need bluetooth, has anyone got any recommendations please? Cheers. :)

Edit: Just had a quick look on eBay, would something like this work OK - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Connects2-CTAVGUSB-Skoda-Octavia-MK2-2005-onwards-USB-Adapter-Music-/381035415209?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item58b77b06a9

That will work yes.

You will have 6 folders- each representing a CD.

So you would select the CD changer (as this plugs in place of this) and then choose a CD (a folder).

You can then skip the tracks using the headunit. You won't get any song names on the stereo I don't think.

Thanks for the reply, any other options worth considering? :)

No without changing the stereo.

I almost bought one of these but decided to just go for a Columbus navigation unit in the end as I also wanted integrated sat nav.

Stream MP3 is very limited in functionality, if you want track names and more than six folders of music (max 99 tracks in each) then you'll need to replace the stream with something like a Bolero.

Yeah. Hence why I just gave up in the end and changed it! It is an ok head unit but very basic.

Plus I was having a couple of issues where it would bang, pop and the sound cut out randomly.

If I upgrade to a Bolero (no interest in sat nav), is it just a straight swap or will I need a new surround or anything else too? Thanks.

It's a straight swap, the Bolero uses the same surround as the Stream, and as your car is a 2008 the Can Gateway should be new enough to prevent battery drain.

You will lose the climate display and pdc display (if fitted).
