pad wear

Featured Replies

Hi All

Just had my 30k service on the vrs actually at 26.5k but noticed the service report has brake pad wear;

Fronts are 20% worn & rears are 10%.

I was surprised the wear was so low TBH. I do drive fairly smoothly and avoid heavy braking.

I do drive pretty quickly as most of my to and from work is fast "A" roads, with some nice twisty bits.

What sort of wear are you getting or is this normal for vrs?

I don't drive a VRS but I had a service done at 45,000 about 3 months ago at a Skoda dealer and was told the brake pads were fine.  Last weekend, my local dealer did the MOT at 50,000 miles and in answer to my question, said the pads were still fine front and back with no need to worry.  I'm more than happy with that.

I replaced my front discs & pads last year at 5 years old & approx 40k,however the pads were less than half worn but the discs were heavily corroded,i replaced my rear discs & pads this year at 6 years & 57k & the pads were 3/4 worn.

Do they mean 20% remaining or 20% worn off?

I hate when they use % - why not just tell us how many mm is remaining & that 2mm is the safe minimum / change point?

I have 145,000km and the front pads have 6mm remaining & the rears 4mm remaining.  I'm thinking they'll make it to 200k.

I replaced mine at 50k front and rear, I'd say I was over cautious, plenty of wear left in them. And I drive on single carriageway roads not motorways so they got used.

I'd agree with Mikey VRS, it was the corrosion of the disks that prompted me to change more than pad wear. Rears were possibly wearing more than the fronts and I've been told VAG cars are heavy on rear brakes. True or not I don't know.

They mean 20% worn so 80% of the original pad remaining.

I did double check at the service desk, just to make sure, which way it was meant.

I had my rear pads done 2 months ago. They were the originals and done 53k

The typical braking split is about 65:35 so obviously the back don't do as much work and last a lot longer.

On Golf/Octavia the rears come on first to reduce apparent nose dive.  If you are a habitual light braker like I am, the rears will wear out quicker than the fronts.
