Featured Replies

So, i've got a an error code, warning light and limp mode...The whole 9 yards.

18996/P2564/009572 - Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor Circuit: Signal too Low

I've tried clearing off the error code and it comes back straight away, doesn't make it out of limp mode at all. I've called the garage and they seemed to think it could be an electrical fault rather than anything more serious...I've had the wastegate actuator and EGR cooler swapped out recently, so is it likely that something got disturbed causing a wire to rub through on the sensor possibly?

The light came on last night, I went for a fairly spirited start from a set of lights along a nice empty straight road, the warning light came on and straight into limp mode. Previously it's been running beautifully, no drops in power, no weird noises from the turbo, no black smoke.

Car is a VRS CR170 TDi.

Are your nuts tight on the actuator?

Are your nuts tight on the actuator?

I am mechanically inept for the most part, I can give it a look later, assuming I can find it, do think that could be the cause?

Could be as you say that the actuator has been replaced recently. I know that the nuts are a PITA to get at. Also when you replace it it comes with lock thread fluid and a clamp to stop it coming loose. ..that's if you use genuine part's.

The parts were genuine, but the garage that did the work had never worked on a CR before...They ended up screwing up the oil feed to the turbo, so I took it to a VAG specialist to have that rectified, and then the EGR died and got fixed by the second garage.

You need a specific socket and spanner to adjust and lock the actuator nut's. I doubt that they would have these tools so I still think that you should have them checked.

Also setting up of the actuator is done with vas diagnostics or maybe possible with vcds.

Oh right, they most definitely didn't have that level of diagnostic equipment...Goddamn it. It's been working just fine though, seems odd that this error code/limp mode thing has just flashed up all of a sudden.

The mechanical movement of the actuator is converted to an electronic signal back to the ecu so good chance it needs a re check.

Fair enough, I'm ducking out of work early to pop over and get it scanned, fingers crossed it's something cheap!

Turns out the sensor had become disconnected, all fine now.
