Odd noise or not?

Featured Replies

I know there have been similar topics on odd noises, but dont think they came from same location.

Basically when standing at rear of car, you can hear what I suppose is like a gentle hissing type noise from the end of the exhaust area. I think thats the best way of describing it. Ive certainly never heard anything like it from an exhaust before. Its not exactly loud, but can definitely be heard if kneeling down by end of exhaust.

So, is this a noise that shouldnt be there? Is it warning me of something? Perhaps the car is about to blow up!!!!!

Ta in advance.

Snake oil

My TSI vRS makes some odd noises too. Faint bleeping from the engine when you leave it standing after a drive. Weird.

My FR 184 has that - as I found out this evening when it said I had a flat. I thought both rear wheels were hissing!

Thats probably a fair description actually. Could possibly be mistaken for that. I assume you never had a flat?!!

Fuel pump?

Fuel pump?

I believe that was the cause of some noise a while back. Wasnt that in a slightly different location? I tried searching for the old thread, but couldnt find it.

I think it's around that area (within a couple of feet anyway) so might be audible near the zorst outlet.  The underside of the boot floor could possibly funnel the sound back to there?  Just a thought.

Left hand side, I assume (seeing as the RHS one is fake)

Dont think i have any fakes. I purchased the proper spec of the octy :D

Yep, left hand side. It does smell nice kneeling down there next to exhaust :D

Mine does that too. Reminds me of my triumph street triple that used to sound almost like an old dial up modem from under the petrol tank

Yep, present on mine too.

Hissing is the high pressure fuel pump... mine is quite audible from outside but cant hear it at all when in the car.

The faint bleeping noises are the electronics shutting down....also the latest gen cars (petrol and diesel) I believe have water cooled turbos, also an auxilary pump that continues to pump coolant through the turbo/oil through the bearings to assist it in cooling down...hence no real need to warm these down.

Ta Sir.

The auxilary pump on the turbo. Is that definite? I'll check myself hopefully tomorrow or Friday when I pop to a dealers.

No problem chap. RE Aux pump I am sure something goes on with the turbo for a few mins after ignition off, just not entirelu sure how it operates on the EA211 diesel.

Was really obvious on my old Fabia vRS TSi...though that said being how relatively highly stressed that thing was it probably would have blown up without it haha

I'll see what info I can get this week.

Eventually found the old thread thanks to yahoo. My noise sounds very similar to the video posted on that thread. Albeit perhaps not quite as loud. Sounds very much like its my fuel pump.
