I have the chance...

...to buy a 1.8T 150bhp Octavia from the service manager of Skoda here.

It's undergone a complete fix-up, he brought in a new engine from the factory, everything in the engine-bay has been completely changed. He's selling it because he is leaving for another GCC country, he got a job offer with Range Rover he couldn't refuse, and he can't drive a Skoda car if he will be working as After-Sales Manager for them....

H&R suspension kit on it too, including rear-strut bars, brand new turbo etc etc...only thing that needs fixing is the roof-line cloth and the seat cloths....an ECU remap will hit the 200bhp figure.

What do you guys think? I've always wanted to own a turbo-charged car, and now I have the chance, but I'm a little skeptical...

get it!!! you know you wanna ;)

Why did it need a new engine?

 @ Sharkrider

Moose, the Service Manager bought that car for his wife from someone else who lived far out of Dubai, and after 120k (kms) started servicing the car himself. He din't change the timing belt plus some other stuff and some kms later everything just snapped. So the Service Manager bought it at extremely cheap and complete re-did everything...I trust the guy, he's a family friend from my country and he's done everything for me on my car pretty much for free :D

Sounds like your mind is made up Mil, go for it.....

You know which side you will be batting for if you do though.

Dont expect my sympathy you traitor.

JOKE!!

Reading the thread, I wonder why you are skeptical?

The thoughts that spring to mind are whether he is giving you first option or just securing a quick and easy way of selling it; whether you could sell it on in a few years given its history; how the price and potential resale compares with other cars around.

I know these are obvious ones - I'm just wondering where you stand on these?

PS I forgot to ask if you have looked at any insurance implications - Doh!

Let me tell you about Skoda here...

The value falls like a boulder off the cliff once out of the showroom...why?? Because parts can only be found at the dealer's, and they are extremely expensive, and insurance on Skoda's here is just a little lower than BMW...yup...they are classed as pricey here...

I already had an offer for my car, and I din't even say I was selling it, the guy just called out of the blue and asked if I would like to sell it to him.

I bought the car brand new, so I have a bond with it.

A bond only us guys can understand. Girls would never get it. I've decided I'm going to stick with my Fabia. It's the only one of its kind here, and I'm a proud owner. I thought about it real hard today, because the offer on that 'tavia turbo was sooooooo tempting....if converted to UK Pounds, it's worth about 3200, and the engine only has about 20,000kms on it. Thing is, the model is dated. What will I get for it in future in this country? Not much. How reliable are turbos in this country with this heat? I don't know. I'm happy with my little black car. I'm not ready to part with her yet.

If anything, the next car I'm thinking about is either an Octi vRS MK2 or a Golf GTi :)

Hi Mil

If you've made the decision now, at least it is one less thing to worry about  One of the nice things about my Fabia is that it has been reliable (I don't think I've been unusually lucky), so have not had to keep wondering what next will go wrong. Being a girl, that's important ;) but peace of mind is good for anyone :)

It will also give you chance to check out the "heat" performance will it not? without being rushed into buying something now?

Perhaps you can offer to look after it for him if not sold before he departs :D If he is indeed a friend, it doesn't sound out of the question if, as you say, he can't take it with him and also as he is probably going to earn rather more pennies in his new job?

Best wishes whatever transpires.

Get to the point Bengie......

Thing is - where Mil lives you'd want a massive FMIC as well as intake temps will be pretty high most days ;)
