Idiot tyre change question

Featured Replies

I have a second hand set of studded winter tyres and rims. They will go on today.

They were previously on the same model Octy 2 estate.

They are marked as to which is for which wheel.

Do I need to have them balanced and/or get wheel alignment when they go on my Octy - or is fitting them enough?

No, will be a straight fit on and drive as long as they're still balanced okay and no weights have dropped off.

Thanks for the quick reply

When i have used Studded Tyres, as with Offroad tyres, they were never balanced with external weights on the rim,

Ceramic Balance Beads were and are used in the tyres.

You are going to know when you fit them and drive them if they require balancing,

but personally with studded tyres on ice and snow, a tyres balance has to be well off to notice them.

As others, with the note that keeping studded tyres "in balance" to the limits of a good dynamic balancer can be a nightmare, because if you throw a couple of studs on the "heavy side" thats enough to take the tyre out of balance.
