Fuel filler flap fault

Featured Replies

Went to refill the tank tonight. Flap won't open! Central locking is working otherwise. 70 miles of fuel left. All suggestions gratefully received!

Had searched the forum with no joy, but using Google found stuff on the forum! Kept locking and unlocking while pressing or not, and it opened. Phew! Will lubricate mechanism in the morning.

Common fault. Keep pressing the unlock button - it unlocks eventually. I ended up sniping the wires to the locking mechanism to stop it locking. Others have replaced the mechanism, which involves taking the bit trim out - I was just too lazy.

Happened to me while back when almost empty!! Little gizmo inside the flap is electrically controlled and my died.  New part took three weeks to arrive at my dealer. Eventually got the flap open with knife blade wrapped in cloth (to protect paint) and left flap open until repaired. Since discovered that Skoda Aust do not keep parts in stock apart from "high use parts" such as bumpers etc that are damaged in collisions.  Sensors and fiddly bits come in from Singapore.. BTW, open gently as the flap catch is plastic and breaking it off turns it into a major issue!

I noticed yesterday that my filler flap opens even though the car is locked. So I guess my electric gizmo is probably dead too, luckily in the unlocked position rather than locked.

Anyone know how much the part costs, and if you fitted it yourself is it an easy job?

I watched the dealer replace mine.  Pulled half the boot lining out!  Doable but by more mechanically minded than me!!
