little problems turning into big ones help please :-))

Recommended Posts

We purchased our vrs in april this year we are having lots of problems too many that a dealer has recommended we get skoda uk involved. Here they are

Leaking door seals.

The carpet in the car has to be fully replaced on wednesday as it is loose not fitting around doors etc.

Front reading lights case unit is loose and has fallen off.

Sunglasses holder doesnt close

Vrs badge on steering wheel has fallen out.

Parcel shelf clips have not been secured and fallen out.

Engine stalls cuts out (auto start off)

Looses power.

On monday hubby checked oil and coolant on monday and today coolant light came on cut out whikst on a roundabout and once taken to garage there was hardly any oil in... no warning light came on at all.

Dont get me wrong I love skoda and wouldnt want another brand but surely these problems shouldnt be happening in a brand new car??

Has anyone experienced these before and any advice of what action we should take with skoda uk. We are contemplating putting in a rejection letter as its forever in the garage.

If anyone could help or advise it would be much appreciated

Whoa that's a big list of complaints. Personally, I like buying new cars with a warranty to avoid the hassle of repairs but that clearly hasn't worked for you.

I think what's important is how Skoda respond. I had 2 issues, faulty cruise control replaced under warranty but only after the part had been sitting in stock for 2 weeks without me being told and the load cover no longer retracts. Again, a very common issue and the dealer allegedly requested the part 4 weeks ago but I've heard nothing since I last phoned on Friday when I was promised that someone would trace it back through stock and call me on Monday...4 days later, no call.

Dealer service appears sloppy but I'm sure there are some good ones.  There are certainly some very cheap touches with the cars but you shouldn't settle for anything that isn't mechanically sound and yours certainly isn't. I'd ask them to give you a suitable, similar courtesy car and let them keep yours until all problems are completely fixed.  I'd also state in writing to the dealer and to SUK that you will not rush them but that you will only accept a car that is completely free from defects and that you expect to be reimbursed for any financial losses such as taking time off work, driving to garages etc.  When buying new, this is certainly not unreasonable.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Yep, sounds like a case for SUK but seriously, at least some of those problems should have been nailed by any half decent dealer without fuss.

I think you are unlucky to a degree with both car and dealer, on the two small issues I have had (faulty fuel pump and faulty headlamp washer relay), both were changed without hesitation by I might add two different dealers and on both occasions was made to feel very much a valued customer.

Chat to SUK , get them to make the next call...

I know the feeling.

I would raise the issues with SUK so they can log the problems.

If you do reject the car, the letter has to go to either the supplying dealer and they have to agree the car is not fit for purpose if you used finance then the car legally belongs to the finance company and they have to provide a car that is fit for purpose.

Then legally your contract is with Griffin. Your rejection letter needs to go to them listing all the problems and fixes as evidence the car is not fit for purpose under the supply of goods act.

If you used your credit card for the deposit under section 75 of the credit act the credit card company are also responsible.

Don't forget to keep a good log/list of the problems, times its been to the dealers, worksheets given to you by the dealer etc etc

The more you have written down & documented, the better chance of a quick/fast resolution.

pay careful attention if the coolant light comes on -  it should not be using/losing any coolant - ensure the system is pressure tested and read the thread elsewhere here on this issue - as it is likely that you will need the water pump replacing.

Using oil is more expected/ acceptable - and you really need to ensure you top up yourself  - Skoda usually supply a 1 ltr bottle with the car - so that is easy to do.  good luck with the other little niggles, plus please report if/how these are dealt with by Skoda - as many of us will doubtless have similar issues

Sunglasses holder doesnt close

Just had a quick look at my new Octavia and it had the same problem. Will tell them to fix it before I pick up later this week. Would be interesting to know if others had this issue?

obviously some problems have to be fixed by the dealer, due to specialist equipment etc

but sometimes with small easily fixed problems, it's quicker and better to fix it yourself   :envy:

you shouldn't have to do it, but sometimes it's the best way.

When I picked mine up on Thursday, I tried closing the holder and it broke. The handover guy came back and said they didn't have the part in as they had all been used up repairing the faulty batch.

Looking at the fixing I'm not surprised they do not last two mins as the quality, in my view anyway, was never fit for purpose. What does surprise me is how this really poor bit of kit got through QI and onto a 28k car.

I have come to the conclusion that so long as if vaguely resembles a car in shape & function that's your lot..................they have your money...............small problems it's way better to fix yourself...............
