I am not going to bore you with the details but AOHell are out and I am just kicking plusnet in to touch after a few weeks (money making scum  )

So I am looking for a new ISP. ADSL guide sends me in circles as I am unsure between freedom2surf, zen & bulldog. Has anyone else got any other reccomendations?

Steer clear of bulldog, they were on BBC Watchdog a couple of weeks ago for poor customer service, especially to existing customers including disconnected phone lines that never work.

My brother is with Tiscalli, and TalkTalk seem to be getting good press at the moment. I would have suggested plusnet but it seems you have tried them already.

What about cable, with Telewest and NTL about to introduce 10mb connections to all customers for the same price as their 1,2,3mb packages.

I don't think that's entirely true, but the aervice I've had over the past 2-3 years has been very good. Check if they cover your area. Workmat has gone with Tiscali. Only early days but he's pleased. What about Wannadoo?

Can't fault Plusnet and it seems neither can anyone I send their way :D What's happened with them?

Much of a muchness.....

Some poeple get all the luck with this sort of thing.

I'm with Pipex myself, and, apart from a shakey session from january till june (looks to be resolved now, a BT problem it turns out) I can't grumble.

Paying the 1mb monthly fee, which is a bit steep at

I was thinking the same thing, Chris! The only thing I can think of was when they restructured their packages. I was paying

Yes, its true (for ntl anyway), but its going to be ongoing until end of 2006, all current three meg bb users should be upgraded before the end of this year, depending on how much you spend depends on your capped download limit, however i dont think any reporting exists within ntl to highlight users overusing broadband at the moment

I've been happy with Plusnet since I got it around June (2 meg). The only thing it doesn't work perfectly on seems to be this site giving "This page cannot be found" error pages (after I've done all my typing, Tsk). I wonder if it is trying to react too quickly before Brisky's safety buffers have had a chance to do their stuff since it's OK otherwise.

I switched to Plusnet since NTL had "no plans in my area" for broadband, despite being relatively central London. Lo and behold, it's now on. I explained to their rep that if they (HO) had told me it was imminent, I might well have waited. He made rapid notes to check out sales co-ordination.

I have been on Demon for many years. You pay a bit more but you get first class service and a support desk that not only answers quickly but also knows what it is doing.

I lost my ADSL link for a week due to a BT exchange problem. Demon compensated by not charging for one month's service. Can't expect better than that.

I was previously with Tiscali who were terrible, now with plusnet and very happy.

Having already recommended PlusNet to you I'm not sure you'll believe me again :D

I have been with Zen - they were very good but relatively expensive, I haven't looked at their prices recently so can't comment. I still think that PlusNet are the best value even with the new Sustainable Usage policy (effectively a 100Gb cap) so it might be worth persisting unless you have already told them to shove it...that's not just because of my referral discount either!

I suppose it depends on personal experiance but i rang demon three times asking for the direct debit date to be changed and three times was told it had been changed, the fourth time i rang i was told the date couldnt be changed and the other three people were basically talking sh!t. I was offered a full refund for charges occured at the bank if i drafted a large mail but this now means i have a dd coming out on a date that is a pain in the ****!

Clearly three out of four demon customer servece representatives dont have a ****ing clue!!!!!!

I'm with Freedom2Surf. Only problems were a slight delay in the service being available - Guildford is oversubscribed for ADSL - and one outage since December, which lasted about 2 hours and for which we got a refund and apology.

I wouldn't touch cable internet (again) with a bargepole.

Been with them from the start - iffy customer service at times - but not needed them, BB runs fine 23.44 for upto 2Mb - reduced price if full speed not available

This brings me to a question for any BT engineers out there.

The max speed on my line is said to be 512K by BT, but of the other 11 houses on my little estate (who's BT line are feed from a grate outside my house) are getting 1 & 2Mb. Spoke to BT cust services to say this ain't right and can I be re-tested or better still fixed and was told - ...NO. Does your voice calls work OK? - YES, then it is doing it's job - BYE. I have tried to reason with them, pleaded and argued but no go.

Any suggestions how I can resolve this - Pipex will give me 2Mb if BT say OK.

Well I almost fell over in the time it took to get my MAC code less than 1 hour  I have read it taking customers weeks to get it. I have decided Zen are getting my custom. They maybe pricey but I guess you gets what you pay for, and looking through their forums everyone generaly seems to be happy with them.

Pipex has been great - ditto for Zen. NTL has been getting better with time, generally speaking when the speeds go up significantly there will be problems, they then get sorted.

Daemon is one of those odd ones - they were the best by far, grew too fast, got rubbish, improved, was the best again, etc. That was for dialup and ISDN. Not used them for broadband.

I don't mind NTL falling over every once in a while as I have two fail-safe connections with Pipex/Zen anyway, but it is a pain when it does happen. As it's getting cooler again, NTL will be fine again. The infamous 'green boxes' tend to overheat during the summer, and vandalism (read kids kicking the living c@rp out of the boxes) really doesnt do those things any favours either. I don't and will not blame NTL for that, but of course it doesn't help as they're the only ones that are allowed to fix it ;)

Still - Zen is a good choice, with the exception of one point, which is that they STILL dont accept direct debit (even though I was told they would as of June 2005.. Hmm, October now). Standing Orders work, but make sure you pay well in advance as I regularly get a warning about not having paid (even though I have). Never caused a problem as I told their customer services dept, finance section, and it's been noted on my account.

I blew my top about that once with an email when I had received 3 months-in-a-row's worth of warnings, and even though I ashamedly must admit my language was not entirely professional (not personal insult-level, but pretty peeved) I got a call from someone a little higher up, and we had a friendly chat to get it sorted. That alone makes them worth recommending, and their tech support was brilliant too, even when asked a question that was outside their normal expertise, they found out for me within 24 hours. Very impressed :)

From what i've read about them etc they do look good. from what I gather regarding payments I think it was a problem with worldpay.

I'm with Btinternet, they're ok but when there's a problem you have to get their helpline number off the web site, not much use if the problem is that you can't log on to the internet at all! Another thing as well, the helpline is dammned expensive...
