potential blackline purchase. help please.

Featured Replies

Hi all I am looking for an Octavia vrs estate and have come across a blackline edition at a local independent garage.

Here is it .........http://www.rmcars.co.uk/used-cars/skoda-octavia-elgin-201411048721539

Can you give me your honest opinion on it please.

I feel it's overpriced but am not really sure as its a Ltd edition.

It looks straight enough and I will test drive it tomorrow.

Any thing to look out for.

Cheers.

Anyone ??

I'll start then.

New hatchback was circa 18k delivered. Estate not much more from memory.

It was limited but only using parts bin extras:

amundsen + DAB and satnav

Leather

Rear Parking Sensors

Black 18" Alloys

Maxi Dot

Apart from the amundsen other cars could have these options fitted and more so paying a premium for it is possibly wrong.

Compare to what else is out there to help decide.

Other alloys could be refurbed to gloss black for not loads of money if that was a biggie.

No issues, ace car!

Thanks for the reply.

My problem is that i am based quite far up scotland and there are literally two octavia vrs estate for sale, the one above and then another 09 plate for 12k which i feel is massively over priced.

Im not that fussed about the black wheels to be honest, if i bought the car and in time they needed refurbing I'd have them done silver.

Ive seen a place that can do a retrofit sat nav into the octavia so I may try and hold out for a cheaper car.

Is the one above likely to hold its value more than a normal octavia vrs?

Car value in the future will be down to miles and spec. Vs other cars.

The Blackline is not as special as the old LE. Nothing that exclusive on it really. Like the LE's seats.

So it's future value will not be any more special than any other Skoda. Plus nothing on the car says Blackline so no one else will care.

So if it's good for you and price is OK for your area and it's a good car. Grab it!

Mk2 vRS prices are holding up well, especially the diesels probably due in part to the extra you need to pay for a mk3 now. Although as above it's been put together using extras from the parts bin it is a seperate model in its own right and the dealers are pricing it to reflect this. The manual estate would probably have been somewhere between 19-19500 new give or take depending on what deal you could get. It is a limited edition -Skoda said they were only building 500, though there was speculation a few more were made in the end as demand was so high. There's still around 12 months skoda warrenty on it depending when it was registered so should be a safe buy. Give it a test drive and see what you think. You can expect to get between 45 and 55 ave to the gallon depending on how you drive it and the types of journeys you do. Check the tyres for uneven wear usually saw toothing - that would need a 4 wheel alignment doing if that's the case. Good luck.

For my Blackline I paid £16500, and got £2000 trade in for my old Golf exactly a year ago. So cash outlay for me was £14500.

My price was from a Skoda dealer but also it was down south where there's far more supply.

Price seems high-ish but maybe you could haggle a bit?

Issues I have had - 3 of my alloys were buckled and I didn't realise it, so test drive it at 70, it should be completely smooth with no vibration. Only other thing was a topmount replaced under warranty.

I assume this car has 1 year or 8000 miles left on its Skoda warranty? Not noted in the ad however.

Great car.

See PM

Hi,

So we went and had a look at this today and I have to say I really like it.

Its absolutely filthy at the moment and covered in what looks like suncream marks down the one side but Im sure all that will come out with a nice machine polish.

I have a few questions...

On lifting the boot carpet floor it looks like a space for a spare wheel but split in to with a big space on the left hand side and what looks like a tyre inflator on the right. Should there be anything else underneath there??

It says the car has a premium sound system? What is this exactly??

The car is sat on 22000 miles, When is is due a service and what service would it be??

many thanks

Steve

Tyre inflator should have a can of gunk too. I sold mine and got a proper spare wheel.

Service every 10k or could be on variable servicing. Which Is longer but I cannot say 100% on how cariable works.

Premium sound system is dealer speak to big it up....

Came with Amundsen+ system. SAT NAV and DAB. Colour touch screen. MP3 via SD card. Really good system - but pretty standard.

Thanks for that. going to go and have a test drive tomorrow.

Should it have a jack and wheel brace to?

Is there a usb input anywhere that you can play music on the stereo?

As well as the gunk and compressor there should be a pair of large plastic tweezers to get the wheel nut covers off and make sure the locking wheel nut adapter is there. Servicing could be fixed 10k or 12 months which evercomes 1st or variable which is decided by the car depending on journey type etcbut max would be 20k 2 years.

If you have a scroll through the maxidot it should tell you when the next is due.

Personally like others it seems a bit on the expensive side and the dealer is probably trying his luck. If you go on skoda uks website and search in the used car section on octavia vrs between 12 and 18k there were a few there yesterday you can use as part of your discussions with the dealer and those are from main dealers too. IIRC the estate was about £800 more expensive than the hatch.

great fun though but not too friendly on front tyres. It would probably have had contis on as standard so see what are on there now. About £100 a corner to change. Enjoy the test drive.

no jack or wheelbrace if you have the gunk and compressor. Skodas take on it is you don't need one as you call Skoda assist during the 3 year warranty if the gunk doesn't work and after that you're on your own! The spare kit includes the jack and brace and is around £110 but make sure you get the 16 inch spare as the 15 won't fit the front. Stick all your music on a sd card it's brill.....

Thanks for the info.

I have managed to get in contact with the previous owner. He sold it to the garage for quite a bit less than what he has it up for but he offered them more than we buy any car would offer them.

Im not sure what price to go in at now. He has offered 10k for my s max against the car but that was before negotiating the price of the octy.

What would you do??

Im really rubbish at haggling.

You could instead haggle with extras. I find this much easier than haggling on actual price. Ask for the spare wheel you want (edit: and the tool kit to go with it). Check if it needs new tyres (use a tyre gauge) and ask for them as well (specify a premium brand). Get it valeted by a proper company at their expense (not just a bucket of suds from the work experience lad). Ask for a full tank of diesel. Check it's had the services and if not, ask for it to be serviced.

Here's some advice from Which on how to haggle - some of it is no use to you if you're not using finance but it might help prepare your mind:

http://www.which.co.uk/cars/choosing-a-car/buying-a-car/buying-a-new-car/how-to-haggle/

No usb input.

SD card slot takes upto 32Gb memory card. Dead cheap and 32Gb = Plenty.

You can also stream music from your phone over bluetooth if the prep has been done, this is what I do.

Thanks.

Its not from a main dealer though just an independent garage.

I would rather valet it myself as I do all my own machine polishing.

I have found out that the car was serviced 2 months ago

+1 on the above.

There is a guide on here that allows even a complete novice (me) buy and fit the required microphone cable.

Just needs enabling with VCDS then. Or just enable without the Mic and stream.

It has one previous owner who bought it from new and has only sold it to buy a new mk3 vrs

As you'll be trading in your current car it's all about cost to change. As he's got it at a high price you know he's got room to negotiate because of what he paid for it so is he giving you a generous trade in price for your s max? Not knowing anything about Fords, how old yours is, what the condition and milage is and if there's any demand for them you need to find out what its worth before you test drive the vRS. That's then your starting point. Good luck.
