Trico View Screen Rain repellent

Featured Replies

Bloody awesome stuff!  Gave my screen another coating after the last one was starting to lose a little of it's performance (applied back in March)

Yet to try it in the proper rain, but it gives lovely beading!  Highly recommended "mod" for visibility in poor conditions.  Wipers simply not needed at higher speeds and even at 30mph and lower, visibility still great with no wiper smearing

I didn't rate repel at all, Glaco is the easiest one to apply & remove. I keep going back to Gtechniq G5.

  • It's exactly the same stuff from the same factory.  Seems they use a couple of brandings. This is something I was emailed.  "Both PGW (Aquapel) and Trico are owned by Kohlberg.  Kohlberg owned Trico

  • To abide by the rules (which I also abide by), please keep this on topic about this stuff and other comparable stuff.  I would like to hear more about the G1 stuff personally.

Sounds great. Have you used Gtechniqe? If so how does it compare? How do you apply it?

Is it Aquapel in disguise?

Never used the G1 stuff.  This stuff is applied from a little caplet.  One does about 2 square metres so I find 2 is perfect number to do a whole car. :)

This is it in raw form.

Well that confused me...

I've been using RainX off and on for a while but it doesn't seem to last very well, particularly the wipers seem to remove it.  This stuff sounds like it lasts a lot longer.

One thing though - I lubricated the seals on the drivers window with rather liberal amounts of silicone grease and every time you open the window it recoats it leading to epic beading.

Wheres my post gone?

See my post above.  Explains all.

It would be interesting to know what experience people have with using this sort of stuff with auto wipers.

G1 can by fussy to apply, but gives very good durability & works well above 40mph.

My preference is G5 which gives great performance above 30mph & is very easy to apply, but durability is not as good as G1. G5 IMO is a winner.

The Trico looks very good & thanks for doing this thread, never tried this or the similar Aquapel, or Duxback which all look similar.

Might be worth doing a 50/50 test.

+1 for G5.

I have not tried others however but I have had G5 on my screen for about 3 months and its still working well.

Certainly on the motorway I don't need my wipers.

I switch mine off......The more you wipe (when you don't need to) the more it will impact on durability.

I have some on the wife's motor. Told her not to use the wipers but she just ignores me, so will test the durability on hers with frequent wiper use and compare to mine (every cloud has a silver lining)!

I spend most of my commute on NSL roads so I do need to use the wipers.  It just seemed to me that the auto wipers were a bit more erratic straight after applying RainX.

I use G5 too

Really like it and recommend it

Very cost effective

Never really used RainX but it doesn't get great feed back.

I dont like it at all

Others find it OK

Guess they havent tried the G1 or the eBay stuff either

I've coated mine with G1 after finding Rain-X to be appaling for smearing and durability.

OK it's only been on for a fortnight and it's not rained that much, but it is excellent.

The initial mild smearing has gone. New wiper blades made quite a difference, but even with old blades back on its almost gone.

Not had any wiper judder at all and the beading above 40mph is brilliant. No sign of it diminishing in the two weeks.

Auto wipers annoy me anyway, but since having the G1 on their behaviour has become a little more bearable below 40mph. It's at that point that I switch the wipers off and go for manual wipes when needed or full speed if needed (such as passing large lorries or buses).

Not used the Trico View Screen but as I have so much of the Gtechniq Perfect Glass kit left (aside from the actual G1) I can't see me changing for quite a while and will be putting it on SWMBO's Fabia when I get a chance.

It were cheap.

What issues might you have with applying these sort of treatments in cold weather?  I don't have a garage.

As long as its not freezing or very damp...Youll be fine

Totally agree

Never had any problems, there might be an issue applying G1 in conditions if it is damp as it needs to bond to the glass. I have applied G5 in conditions where there has been some damp in the air & it was fine. If it is really cold then heat the glass up with the engine running & put the interior fans on full blast.

I only apply in absolutely dry weather.  Doesn't need to be sunny but I find the glass needs to be absolutely dry for it to work well.  I think I was fairly lucky on the mongrel as I applied it at about 3pm yesterday, and it went on well, but only 1 hour later as it began to get a bit dimpsy (as they say down here) I could see the glass starting to condensate on the outside.  It was a good job I applied when I did.

I waited for a dry day with temp about 10°C and put a small electric fan heater inside before commencing work.

I could feel the glass warming from the heater and, if anything, it was too warm as the liquids dried out quite quickly and didn't always spread evenly first time.

Still have a good bond across all the glass though.
