Roof Bars and Box

This may already have been done to death but I am thinking of getting a set of roof bars and a small roofbox for the Yeti.

With the usual luggage along with a folding picnic table and chairs etc its a bit of a squeeze.

Had the genuine Skoda bars and a Thule Ranger 90 fabric box in mind.

Are the above 2 items all I would need or is there other items I would need to purchase?

I'm assuming that the soft Thule box can take a smallish suitcase, holdalls etc.

As always I'm open to suggestions from those better experienced in this kind of stuff.

I'd go for a plastic roof box.  (unless you've nowhere to store it). Better weather proofing and security.

Space at a real premium with the summer wheels now stored so wanted something that would take up less room.

I have a similar capacity but in a rigid box - Kamei Delphin 380 - which lives in the roof space in the garage as it came with a set of hoist straps and mounts. I've got a Thule softbox which I use with the Skoda roof bars. I'm not sure of the exact model, but I've used it in driving heavy rain for 200 miles and its pretty weathertight. Would recommend wrapping stuff in plastic just to be certain. It does have its own locks so security is reasonable - won't stop a scroate with a knife. Advantage is that it can be taken off the roof and rolled up when not in use.

The box I have came with a fitting kit that works with the Skoda roof bars. It locks to the roof bars internally so is secure when the box is locked.

These are the bars I picked up for my Yeti - linky.  Not quite as fancy as the Skoda ones but a fair bit cheaper.  And as it was for something that would be off the car for the most part, I didn't see the point in paying top dollar.  Also, the non Skoda ones have some overhang at each end which is handy for strapping down stuff with ropes/straps.

 

I've used the bars with a topbox filled with MTB gear on a trip to Wales and the whole setup was rock solid.  So definitely no issue with the quality of the kit.

I have the same roof bars as Hatcho above, they work great & they did a Lake District to Devon & back with a tightly packed Thule Motion 200 roofbox on with no problems.
