Outside security camera.

Featured Replies

Has anyone got one in use, if so what make, and are you happy with it? I'm trying to find out what is a good set up that I can do myself.

We have used the following company quite reasonable price.

I've got a couple of the halogen guardcams, and are quite good.

As for cameras, all depends on what you want to cover, distance to object, light levels, etc.

The more tv lines a camera has, more cost, IR has to be able to reflect off a surface, so no good for vast open spaces at nights. If you go for a kit system, then everything is in the box

Thank you very much for your reply.

Have a look in Maplins. They do complete kits and individual components so you can add to it as and when you require.

I bought a kit from them 500gb hard drive, 2 X static cameras & 2 X pan and tilt. Replaced the pan and tilt with two static cameras after about a year and also added a fifth static camera. As well as a burglar alarm system, I've also got 4 X security lights. All approaches and entry points covered. I'm looking at adding another 500gb hard drive as even on motion detection only, I only get about 24 days out of it, due to the local 24 hour taxi office operating adjacent to my property.

I found that using one highly visible dummy and covert active  ones was more effective. Made the job of hiding the covert ones easier as all attention was focussed onthe highly visible dummy.

That's what we do on the sites. They target the dummy cameras, thinking they got the cameras and the hidden cams get them. We have placed cameras at ground level looking up as people tend to keep their heads down
