Sound Proof - Noise Killer

Featured Replies

Iam thinking of getting some sort of Sound Proof kit for my Octavia.

Has anyone fitted one and did it make a difference?

Yes and a little. Carpet underlay and flashband though - Much cheaper.

The car is still inherently noisy, so don't expect miracles.

Don't pay a fortune for whatever you try.

Better to switch to quieter tyres, Goodyear Efficient Grip made a difference on mine.

As above. It must be your tyres.

We find ours pretty quiet.

Much quieter than all our previous cars. Holding a conversation at 70mph for instance is very easy.

I fitted  a wide strip of self adhesive flashband under the rear seat and around the spare wheel area where there was not any as standard. I did not find the car very noisy anyway, can hear the radio fine at 70mph, but just thought I'd try a cheap potential solution. Maybe a slight reduction? But tyre noise overwhelms everything to my dodgy ears..

Likewise, whilst I only have these tyres on the front, they did make a huge difference.

As daft as it sounds, I actually look forward to the rears wearing out so I can put these on the back too!

Doesn't sound daft at all, I felt the same when I had them on the Octy and I can't wait for my fronts on the Honda to wear down so I can put them on the Accord.

Those Goodyear's grip really well as well, I think they are much improved over the Vredestein Ssesantas I had on before... And everyone seems to really rate them!

Sorry to Hi-jack the thread :notme:

Funny you all mention tyres!!!

On the back I have Continental Sport Contact 2

On the front I have a Budget Maxixs Tyre

All tyres have good life so it would be a shame to get ride of them but!

My Car is a 1.6 Diesel tyre size 205/55/R16  any idea what the speed rating should be back say V front say W?

I made contact with Noise Killer and they said the following costs for the kit

Cost of the kit is £199 incl. Vat shipping is £12 if you require fitting it is £90 at our factory or £170 mobile

Ah, forget the noise killer then.

I had Maxxis tyres on my VRS, cheap, wore well, loads of grip but, OMG THEY WERE ****ING LOUD.

I'd change the tyres for Goodyears mate. I also got some extra mpg with them.

Tyres won't disappoint but I suspect the sound deadening might.

The question is do I do all 4 or just the fronts (Maxxis)

Most noise comes from the rear of an Octy so you might want to put the new Goodyears on the rear and put the best of the Maxxis on the front.

Some would argue your best tyres should be on the rear anyway.

those "kits" are always expensive.

You want to get products which are designed to reduce air born noise. Its a big job to do though, something like this

you'd need to do the floor pan though so it want be cheap. Although neither would 4 new tyres but the goodyears will certainly be an upgrade on what you have.
