Hello everyone, i've just received this week my new Octavia 1.6tdi elegance with dsg paddles on steering wheel.

Problem is: when i override with paddles in D/S it reverts back to auto in 6-7 seconds unless i keep changing gears.

But it is written on manuals that it should keep manual operation 1 minute unless you cancel it by pressing + button for 2 sec.

(and this was the reason i added this optional steering wheel with paddles)

can it be possible that a software update was made and this duration was reduced??

is there anyone who knows something about this system?

I got the paddles on my 1.8 TSI and if I drop down gears in D/S, it stays in those gears for 30-60 seconds - I have not timed it. First thing pops into mind is Eco mode? Do you have Drive mode select and you are sitting in Eco? Might be related. I am driving in Individual where everything is normal except steering, which is in sport for harder steering.

No i don't have driving mode selection.

If you put the gear lever into the  +/-  position and use the Paddles it won't revert back to auto.

So I played around with my paddles on my way home and can say it will change into D after about 6 seconds if you drive steady. But if you slow down it will stay in the gear you changed down to. Or if you are variate gas peddle it will stay in desired gear, but as soon as you drive on steady gas peddle it will change back pretty quick.

 

Oh and while holding "+" ("OFF") for 1-2 seconds it will go back to D pretty much instantly after changing gear.

 

Working as intended I guess - if you plan to overtake and want to be in 3rd or what no then pop into full manual.

What makes me angry is: in the manual it's written that it will revert back to auto if you don't use paddles for more then a minute.. This is a complete misinformation..

If you hold down the + button for 2 seconds, then the "OFF" is triggered. Meaning: roof will shoot OFF and you will be ejected from the car.

On another note does anyone want to buy a one week old vRS cabrio-estate..the first in the UK?

My last car was a 2007 Passat with DSG and paddles (the same engine and gearbox roughly). If you used the paddles at all in full auto mode it would stay in manual unless you didnt use the paddles for 60 seconds (in which case it then reverted back to full auto). If you hold the right paddle (+) in for a few seconds it then reverted back to full auto.

Not being funny, but if you use the paddles to change up or down a gear and don't alter the accelerator position the car is probably assuming you did it by accident, so goes back into auto.

 

Normally most people drop a gear and bury the throttle, or drop a gear for engine braking so are lifting off the throttle.

It could well be that later DSG run a more economical program - the manual perhaps needs a small amendment to reflect this. Six seconds is quite a time to hold a gear without doing something with it if you think about it.

Ive had a DSG in one of the first UK Octy 3's off of the production line, and a DSG in one that was built 2 months ago. I have had flappy paddles on both, and they were both CR150's.

 

I'll have a play tomorrow and see if it is the same, but I can't say I noticed it on the early car, but I wouldn't have changed gear for no apparent reason either

My only VAG DSG paddle experience is with my mum's 08 Audi A3 2.0 TFSI. But like the demo Octy I had (no paddles) I wasn't really driving it sedately
