1,8 owners - how long to reach 90°C?

Featured Replies

I've noticed that the engine is very quick to reach 90°C. At about zero celsius, it can take as little as 3 minutes.

I wonder if it has some fancy tech under the lid to achieve this?

1,8 petrol owners. How long does yours take?

Water or Oil ? there's a BIG difference

With current mornings, around 3 to 5°C, takes few minutes (5?) and around 5km.

Again, water or oil.

My coolant levels indeed reach 90 degrees within minutes, but my oil (for which the vRS luckily has a separate sensor) can take as long as 30 minutes if I forget to use the block heater and avoid the highways.

And oil is your 'when to floor it' indicator - cold oil means a cold engine and you don't want to stress a cold engine, too much wear (someone once told me every cold start equals 200km of motorway on a warm engine).

If I do use the block heater (I have it set to 60 minutes because of the cold weather at the moment, but you can keep it on while driving if you want) it can take me as little as a few minutes to get the oil to 90 degrees.

Ah, yes, I should have clarified :)  I meant the coolant temperature. The gauge that has a big 90 written in the middle.
