A couple of questions re fog lights

 

As the DRLs are in the headlamp unit on the MK3 VRS I presume the fog lights are standard yellow bulbs. I ask because I have read the mods thread and it is possible to have the fog lights as DRLs on the VRS.

 

If you go down this route would the DRLs in the headlamp unit still be active at the same time as the (newly activated Fog / DRLs) and hence be different colours

 

On my Q5 S Line I have changed the yellow fog light bulbs to match the white Xenon headlights, is it possible to do the same on the new VRS?

You can disable DRLs on headlamp, though if you have LED DRLs, than I do not see why you should retrofit LEDs to fog lamps, since you have LED DRLs already factory fitted.

Though I did this tweak on Octavia with bi-xenon lights but with halogen DRLs. And those halogen DRLs are really disgusting. It is much better now with fog lights as DRLs. I have set the fog lights to 60% luminosity.

The answer is that with the new MQB platform you can make the lights do almost* anything you can think of.

You can have the std LED light bars (DRL's) and set the fogs to be DRL's as well - they would all be lit.

You can change the fog light bulbs from halogen to LED which will match the headlights.

You can even have them as additional driving lights / marker lights at a reduced intensity.

Be carefull, the vRS front fogs are a H16 IIRC and its not easy to get the colour match you need/want/desire as there isn't a lot of choice in that bulb.

H8 bulbs will fit with a little trimming of one of the locating lugs, xpower has them fitted I believe

I have just ordered my H8 LED bulbs from china.

The seller will send me 4300 K (we will see).

I have xenons + LED DRLs and I went for the same color temp.

Theese are "classic" 50W CREE LED bulbs, with 2 LEDs + lenses on top.

I know it's not a perfect solution because of the glaring effect caused by the top LEDs.

So I will apply a partial cover on the top side under the lense (can be removed/refitted easily).

I verified my idea on a bulb with the same design and it works

FYI I have Elegance and the top side of the bulb is not covered in the fog lamp.

I don't know the vRS version...

I have just ordered my H8 LED bulbs from china.

 

Boom, that'll be busted lights in about 5mins then!

I prefer the look of the DRL on my MK2 VRS in the lower grill and would like the same effect on the new one.

 

On the Q5 i changed the yellow fog lamps to "Hoen" H11Xenonmatch  lamps which I got from the USA. Would these same lamps fit the VRS?

I have a question:

Can i do with vcds the fog lights as drl at 50% in octavia mk3. One of the Led DRLs burned out and it is not justified to buy a new xenon headlight just because of the DRLs.  In my country I have no problem to driving with the fog ligts to 50% like drl. Thank you in advance!

Yes
