Lots of smoke

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Recently bought a 2012 Octavia VRS petrol and ive noticed a lot of smoke from the exhaust. i understand this will be more obvious with the colder weather but it does this even in the warmer months and with the engine at full temperature. car has done 50000 miles with a full skoda history.

Also, what are the best tyres for my car and ideal tyre pressure?

Thanks

Phil.

What colour smoke?

Being colour blind its a bit difficult to say but i'd say white/grey

Can't help with the smoke situation so sorry!

However their is no ' ideal ' pressure or tyre brand. However they are opinions and I personally recommend 35psi all round althlough the norm is 32 front and 34 rear.

As for tyre brand I go on a website called black circles.com and buy Goodyear Efficient tyres with a 'A' in wet grip and 'B' in fuel economy for £90 a corner on 18"

I run Stage 1 on a diesel so need the grip when it comes to accelerating hard. Great all round tyre and very quiet.

Epic in the wet and gets pushed very hard at times and is extremely reliable.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice T555VRS.

Anyone else with an opinion on the smoke/steam situation.

Could be just fuel vapour.

Any loss of coolant or oil?

no, all fluid levels appear fine.

Smoke could be worn valve stem seals, resulting in oil running down the valve stems into the combustion chamber and burning.  You won't see much difference in the oil level, as a little makes a lot of smoke.  Suspect seals particularly if it's worse under hard acceleration.

Smoke from the exhaust in cold weather is usually water vapour which is a by product of combustion, so nothing to worry about.

Mine steam like a kettle on these cold/damp mornings but as fordfan says it is water vapour and soon disperses once everything warms up.
