Fabia tyre wear

Featured Replies

Dont know if this may help - Fronts last 10K (with traction control always on) and rears 20K. Pressures do change, suspect alloys are slightly porous. Wife had a double blow out (Dunlops), both near side at 90 on M27 - not good but I think (hope) that was down to debris.

Good luck!

So your wear rates are fairly similar to my brothers.

What are you two doing that no-one else on here seems to be?

Driving like eejots

Just out of interest has he bought the same make of tyres from the same person everytime? Could be possible the guy had some bad stock? Not re-mounds are they?

I've always been heavy on tyres but with the fabia I'm gettin very good wear out of them. On my previous car I killed a set within 10k (peugeot 206 diesel).

I really do feel your brother needs to get the tyres and car tested, also after the second blow out I wouldn't go back with that make of tyre again

I can imagine the tyres lasting 10k if you scream in/out of corners, round roundabouts etc. and always kinda going for it flat out.

That would wear out the tyres a lot quicker. Also the more grippy versions would wear out a bit quicker, so that would make sense.

The thing that worried me most though is the blowouts - if you do drive it pretty hard, it's worth pumping the tyre up a little more, so the sidewalls have more 'strength' (bad term to use) to keep it from dropping down too much. Perhaps that is causing it, hard to say :(

Maybe he's just been unlucky, the tyre wear is going like a d1ck round bends and accelerating hard, the blowouts may be as a result of overtaking in little used areas of the road and picking up debris.

My Kumho 712s aren't wearing brilliantly, I've done 6k since fitting them and had worn down the tread to about 4mm when I swapped them front to back last week. That probably goes hand in hand with my 36.9 mpg average on the trip 2 computer... Still think they handle well for the money though.

I won't be swapping the fronts/rears around - based on the wear pattern on the rear it just doesn't seem worth it, and having the best pattern on the back was proved to be safer when top gear did a bunch of comparisons a pretty long time ago. No doubt I'll be replacing my fronts in the not-too-distant-future though. Apart from the road noise the factory-fits have been excellent for my use so far, not bad in the wet nor dry, general road use.

Due to the kind of mileages I'm doing an extremely grippy, shortlasting tyre wouldnt work for me, whereas sticking an extreme-long-life tyre on will probably just cause the traction control to kick in loads, which would suck too.

I'm happy with the standard contisport 2s on mine  Look nearly new at 12K

 I feel like im missing something here? i have just hit the 14k mark and just had a new clutch put in and 2morra i am putting the 3rd set of front tires on!!! :( Im beggening to think im pushing it too hard after all u lot saying yours are still like new. I never drive with the TC on cos it does my head in and the other day it wheelspun at 70mph (in the wet) what tires should i put on instead for a longer last?

Maybe I'm gettin old but how the hell are some of you guys driving? wheelspin at 70! WTF

Never thought myself as being kind to tyres but it would seem I must be?

Im a enfusiastic driver! it was 70mph on a corner and only for about 2seconds.

You can't really have it both ways - i.e. if you get a tyre with loads of grip (in dry/wet), you will find it tends to last a lot fewer miles compared with a slightly less gripping tyre with a long (mileage) life.

Based on your driving style implied in some of your posts, more grip would seem to make more sense - my car has not been remapped (yet) but I've not had wheelspin in the higher gears, so far

My car has been remapped and I dont get wheelspin in the higher gears. Maybe in second if I blast it out of a corner

Probably sliding rather than spinning.

I've fitted Falken 512 all round............Won't be stopping on long enough nto wear out......They are Pants in the wet.......Slide all over
