New 0% finance deals....

Featured Replies

Just trying to get some views on the finance, I've recently got a mk2vrs fab and my mrs said to me now she's looking at getting a skoda because it's 0% and the deals are good and the cars are better.. But I was wondering coz the guy at skoda said a '6 grand deposit' would be best, which is frankly ludicrous, I don't know anyone with '6 grand' lay around waiting to be deposited on a car really, but, what is best.. To put say.. 3 down plus her car (say a grand so 4 all in all) or put 1 down plus her car and then let the monthly payments go up? I'm torn because it's like, she will be throwing money in but lowering her monthly payment.. But.. She could save that money in the bank and just pay say 6 months payments with it.. Or top the other payments up and then she at least has 'some' savings for a rainy day.. Be glad to get your opinions on what you guys did and what you think is best etc. I was lucky and and got a good bonus from work so put 3 down but now sort of regret it coz I've never got any cash..

If the finance is 0% it doesn't make any sense at all to put down a large deposit as there is no interest being charged so no saving to make.

As Tom says above.

There is a minimum deposit amount in the Skoda terms and conditions.

That is the minimum, there is no reccomended amount.

Just be aware that any finance deal where you don't put in a largish deposit will result in you being in negative equity for some time due to the way any new car plummets in value as soon as you drive it.

So make sure the car you buy will be kept for some time.

Otherwise if you change your mind after six months you'll have to pay several thousand to get shot of it.

If you're getting 0% then you want to borrow as much as possible at that rate. It what you owe will actually go down with the rate of inflation.
