Steamed up windows after the heater's on

Featured Replies

Also just this morning put a new cabin filter in....but once inside starts to get warm it steams up, if the blowers at 3 (4s max) it keeps the fronts quite clear but the side back and back window are still bad. There's no sweet smell or damp/wet carpet either and no a/c to bugger about with (mk2 Octy 1.9tdi)

The temp gauge also "moves" a bit when driving, quite often drops a bit but never goes over 12 o'clock though even when in traffic

It's doing my t&ts in

Check you have the air setting on air from the outside and not on recirculate. No aircon then you need a little air movement in the car, crack open the rear or both front windows a little for a short period when setting off, it help clear the windows quicker. Warm inside, cold outside is going to cause condensation of some sort in the car, house whatever just have to minimise it, you need air movement.

Recently had a similar problem.

Turned out the rubber bung in the spare wheel was letting water in and the boot mat was damp.

Worth checking as there is also a common problem of the washer pipe popping off and also the boot seal leaking.

It's not on that, and to be honest I rarely use it, I also have either one (sometimes both) fronts just open slightly, or one the backs, doesn't help much though

I have had the leaking bung in the spare wheel well as well. Ended up with about 1/2 inch of water unless I mopped it out every couple of weeks especially in the winter.

I had only about 1cm in there but not even all over.

I've sealed the sucker up now though and it's now bone dry!

If It's dry in there, what then

Also go round all the footwells and all the carpets for any signs of damp.

It's all dry, I checked the other day when putting the filter in, I just didn't know about the grommet in the boot
