Is the mk2 Octy tdi a cable or electronic accelerator

Featured Replies

Just wondered, I know the mk5 Astra cdti is as its quite sluggish at low revs whearas the Octy has pull from the the word go. Using the Octy for the last 2-3 weeks and getting used to it, if I'm using the Astra again, I think I'll try and get a pedal box to help it as its electronic

Definitely a drive by wire.

They have pretty much all been since the late 90s early 00s.

A throttle cable wouldn't work on a modern diesel anyway.

Thanks, I didn't know, my 02 pug 306 hdi was cable, so the Octy is electric ie by wire, it must either be a different design from the astra or its got a pedal box, I'll look tomorrow

1.9 PD engine has great pull at low revs anyway ..... Nothing to do with the accelerator linkage I'm sure.

Peugeot/Citroën cars of that era had an odd 'half and half' setup where the pedal was attached to a traditional mechanical cable which passed through the bulkhead into the engine bay but then connected to an electronic accelerator pedal position sensor under the bonnet. Sort of half drive by wire but sort of half not drive by wire if you like!

As above. The PD engines have a good shove from low down due to how they work. The Vauxhall CDTI engines are different. I think they are a common rail engine.

Yeah think they did that as a money saving exercise.

The D-Turbo and non turbos all had throttle cables due to the injection pump. Then rather than make a new accelerator pedal and wiring etc they kept the cable and did it this way.

Yes as you say it was very likely to save the cost of redesigning the pedals and wiring loom.
