Buying advise needed just looked at a vrs

Featured Replies

Hi ive just looked at a nice 53 reg black vrs in very good condition with 128,000 k ive got the price down to £2,550 from £2,695 as it needs its second cambelt and water pump change as it was last done in october 2008  which will be £395 at my loacal specialist, is this a good price or should I push try to get the price lower to accomadate the cam belt ? thanks any help appreciated.

Have you checked the service history/brakes/suspension/electrics/door seals etc etc?  Seems a little on the high side to me for a 128K 10 year old vRS.  If in great condition with absolutely nothing needed, I'd have thought £2300 would be nearer the mark.  £2550 plus £395 is almost 3 grand. Way over the odds imho.  Seem lower mileage, newer ones go for less.

Every thing seems solid its got 14 stamps in the service book 11 being the same main dealer no invoices though its only 1 mile from me I might wait and see if the price drops and keep looking.

Is it dealer? He will drop more than that is you push him. If its overdue cambelt and hes dropped 100 or so for a 300 quid job. It dont add up too me

any signs of spray jobs? Masking tape lines in joints? Ots rare to find a none sprayed one I found. Looked at 8or so all had spray jobs to some extent

Black is best colour for value of cars ive found. Always sells well and looks mint WHEN freshly cleaned.

the value of the car is what it means too YOU. If you like and want it. Thats all that matters.

the car market right now is a buyers market and cars are selling very slpw as people are watching their pennies leading too Christmas

Knock him down another couple of hundred and tell him you will buy it today :)

They are cracking cars.

I wouldn't wait for the price to drop. Offer £2000. If you add tax, cam belt and water pump that adds up to approx £2550.

Seems fair to me.

Its only a loacal car sales the guy claims he paid £2250 for it and wants £2550 minumum ,that's not much profit margin after mot, advertising it and having it valeted and the seats cleaned as well, I think he maybe telling porkies about the price he paid, its in excellent condition though the paint is all consistant and very good no rust on the arches and the drivers seat bolster is very good ,the car looks younger than its age/millage , the service book has I think 11 stamps from the same main dealer and three stamps from the same independent,i will phone back tomorrow and try and get the price lower as this cam belt is bugging me .

ask him to do the cambelt and u'll buy!

Like people are saying get the cam belt and water pump changed and might consider it, costs about £300 through Skoda fir them jobs.

He will have more money in it than that. If not hes been bent over lol

I've just bought a bronze Fabia to replace my silver Felicia and will miss being able to fix scrapes with a tin of hammerite. I wonder if I can get bronze hammerite that will match my car...

I asked if the trader could change the cam belt he said yes but would want window price £2695 , I then asked would he do the water pump and aux belt as well and he said no just cam belt he can get it done for £150 , so I told him forget it that's why you don't trust a trader to do the job as they will more often than not do the minimum work with the cheapest parts , so I phoned TPS and the cam belt kit is about £134 and the water pump is about £50 and aux belt is about £24 my loacal specialist said 3 hour job + G13 so its about £380 all in .

Cambelt kit is circa £50 from tps!!!

I really can't remember at the moment, and there was a lot of confusion over when the cambelts were to be changed but I thought it was every 4 years or 80,000 miles (whichever came first) in which case it needed a cambelt 2 years ago.

Personally, I'd go elsewhere.

I think the original hand book says something stupid like 120k or 5years , the one I looked at was last done in 2008  the time bomb is ticking.

Ok cool I was quoted my price from tps by a third party, I will try steelers tomorrow and see there price for reference thanks for the info.

My service booklet says 4 years or 120,000km. That's 75,000 miles -ish. It's a BLT if that makes any difference.

I reckon that car is well overdue a cambelt.
