too much for a vrs?

Featured Replies

Hi all. Looking at getting a mk1 vrs from a garage around the corner from wherever live. It's a 55 plate in magic black with 68000 miles on the clock. Apparently it's been garaged since 2007 which would mean it's done alot of miles for the two years it's been on the roads. Extras include xenons and parking sensors. They want 5000 for it. Is that to much to pay?

It is a high price, is the car immaculate?

Standing for so long is not necessarily a good thing either.

IMO yes, but everyone has an opinion. That price, to me, is SE price (low) and in comparison I'd have an SE if I was spending that sort of money. Check the classifieds out as I'm sure there quite a few for sale to give you a better idea. It is low mileage, if correct, but the mileages don't mean much in comparison to full service history. (again IMO). Personally if it did 39k a year that is one very busy car considering the average is 10-12k, so a very large commute. I'd see what the DVLA MOT mileage check states and if there any accidents in it's past.

What Mr Saint said ^

Thinking about it if it's done that mileage per year for two years the front end would be pretty stone chipped.

Thats more like a dealer price, its all about the mileage people will pay more for a low mileage car.

I would be questioning why its been garaged for 7 years, a few of these popped up this year and i just find it strange. Why would anyone buy a car drive it alot for 2 years and then stick it in garage?

And on top of that price you got to add on cost of all new bushes because its not good for rubber being stored that long, there will prob be cracks in timing belt and aux belt so they would be advised to change and it would need a good service.

If you take it to a garage i would say your looking at around a grand at least for all that work.

So with that in mind if the paint is good and the mileage is genuine and its got a few extras on it, its probably worth 3500 -4000.

I sold mine 5 years ago with 65k on an 05 with cruise and heated seats for 5k (private)

Fabia vrs prices are rediculous nowadays

I bought it when it was 3 years old with 33k for 7k from a skoda main dealer :o

They've appreciated in previous years - pokey little diesel that isn't too expensive to buy or run.

Suggestion that has been stated, have a good look around first, while the money is still in your pocket.

Always room for bartering a price thats suits seller and buyer..

For that price you could buy a mini cooper about the same year... Fabia VRS 2005 £1800 - £3000 depending on etc..

Never pay list price for a car, it's a buyers market out there and you have plenty to choose from. Probably a given but go over the history in fine detail, ideally you could do with getting hold of the previous owners as that would shed some light onto what sort of life the car has had and how it's been looked after.

The cam belt should have been done at least once if not twice and it will be due again as it's meant to be done every 4 years regardless of mileage. So that could be a point to haggle on. I'd go in with a £4000 cash offer and see what they say. Could be an idea to get some values of similar spec/mileage cars from trader and take them along with you.

Price wise they do seem to hold their value well and in some cases command more money than you'd expect given the age of the car. The opposite thing has happened in the hot hatch market, the values of them have fallen through the floor because not a lot of people can justify the expense of running one these days.

Well I spent £5200 for an 07 fsh SE (full leather, cruise control, 6cd player) with 78k on the clock.

So yes I would say £5000 is too much.

I would be suspicious of the claim that it has been sat in a garage since 2007 too... !

Thanks for all the replies guys. Tried to budge the garage but they didn't want anything less so walked away. Still in the hunt for one though! :)

Keep checking the forums one will pop up sooner or later and it should have been looked after, hopefully. Also you can check it's history via the forums if it's a members car.

Good call.

Did they mean it's been sat idle in a garage, or that the previous owner parked it in a garage? That would make more sense to me, having so many miles on it.

  • 1 month later...

£5000 is laughable, it's an almost 10 year old vRS non-SE. Worth about £3500-£4000 max in my opinion and that's IF the mileage checks out.
