Urgent help with fitting HID kit

Featured Replies

Hi,

Trying to fit it as we speak but been struggling for over an hour and need some help. I've looked at multiple guides and threads on here and i got the basic idea but i'm struggling.

Basically there's this metal clip that held the original bulb in but i can't seem to fit it into the hid bulb one, it goes over it but it's not a tight fit and when i try to twist it in place in the headlamp it doesn't lock as well as the original bulb and therefore it rattles, am i doing it wrong? I want to fit it without buying any extras as i know people have done it, i'm getting really frustrated and want to fit it before it gets dark, so thank you for any advice

My issue might be with the bulb holders, i read the hid guide thread and the person said you can either modify the original metal bulb holders or buy new special ones and he doesn't explain how to modify them so maybe that's my issue? I need to put the metal bulb holders on the hid bulb but it doesn't seem to fit very well and it won't lock into the headlight unit as it's too loose and it rattles?

That's how i cut my original lamp holder, and mine was loose and trying to get it to twist and lock took time but it did go, and touch wood haven't had any problems with the lamp falling from it.

I was trying to cut it earlier but nothing would cut through it lol, i also tried filing it..what did you use?

Light sabre?

Light sabre?

Yeah i need something as good as that, tried pliers, scissors, filing it, bending it, might have to pop to my work to sort something out

A hacksaw?

I used a hacksaw, took a while though.

I used some garden secutours to cut mine and went straight through

It will go over the plugs without having to cut it. Its a tight fit though

Is it worth getting the holders or..? I just need to get the bulb back on but it doesn't seem to twist and clip on, one side is higher than the other so i can't get both clips under the metal bit therefore i can't twist it into position

I've tried the holders before and they didnt fit

If you play with the oem one, get it the right shape, it should go in again

Yeah i'll try again tomorrow, just keep panicking that i'll damage the bulb or something

On the metal holder there is a piece that sticks out which needs to go at the bottom when locking it back in the lamp, I struggled for a while until I realised I had it the wrong way up lol

The OEM holders are the best ones, just cut these and take your time when fitting the kit...:) I had some so called HIDs bulb holders and these were crap and not good so ended up cutting my OEM ones, you will be able to use these in the future with the original H7 bulbs so don't worry.

As all the above said! I'm going back to my original H7's today so I'll let you know how going backwards works with the cut lamp holders. `

Shame really as I've only had them in the car a matter of weeks and only really used twice properly.

Keep eyes on the for sale section  :peek:

Cheers guys, will try again when i get home and let you know how i get on

I don't know if these will be of any use?

I;ve just returned my car to halogens and it took literally no more than 15 minutes, apart from the 25 minute journey to TPS to get some new rubber seals for the lamp unit.
