Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me with my problem, it started about a month ago, I didn't replace anything in the car before it happened, after driving for an hour I parked for about 5 hours then started the engine and drive for about 20 meters and the car stopped, I tried to start it again, it cranked but the engine didn't fire, I tried for about 10 minutes with no use, so I left the car at the parking, the next day I tried starting it again, after cranking for while finally the engine fired up and the car started.

I took it to the workshop where they diagnosed it with VCDS v. 14.10.0.0 and found:

 

16385 - Fuel volume Regulator

                   P0001 - 008 - Open Circuit - Intermittent

 

I asked them to replace the fuel filter just in case, and they also checked the fuel pump which was working fine.

 

A couple of days later the no start issue happened again then gone, I went back to the workshop and while I was there the engine cut out and wouldn't start, they replaced the fuel pump with a new one to test with but still, no start, then checked the voltage at the pump and found it 0, connected a wire between the pump and the battery it worked fine. They checked the wiring of the fuel system and found it passing through relay 458 in the fuse box under the hood, they shorted two legs of it and the car started normally, so they left it shorted.

 

I drove the car for a while then parked it and I heard the radiator fan working although the key was not inserted, I thought it was normal as I know it might run for up to 15 minutes after taking the key off, but it seems that it kept working till it drained the battery and I had to jump start the car, drove it home and pull off relay 458 in order not to let the fan run again without the key inserted.

 

A few days later I went to the workshop and while I was leaving the engine cut off, I tried to start the car, it cranked but the engine didn't fire, although the short on relay 458 was still there, when the engineer tried to check the car with the VCDS it couldn't connect to the car, so the engineer decided that there must be something related to the control and ECU, he checked some service manuals he have then short a connection between pin 81 (as I recall) in the ECU and a fuse in the fuse box under the hood and the car started.

 

I was going to replace that fuse box within a couple of weeks as we thought it might be deffective, but before the two weeks passed, the car worked fine for about a week or so and then, and for the first time, the engine cut off while I was driving on a highway, I parked aside and tried to start the car, it cranked but the engine won't start, a few lights on the dashboard won't go off, the radiator fan was running although the car was still cold, after a few minutes the radiator fan stopped and some of the lights on the dashboard gone off, and I was able to start the car again and drove normally.

 

About 4 days later the same last incident reoccurred, the engine cut off right after it started, I tried to start the car again, it cranked but the engine won't start, a few lights on the dashboard won't go off, the radiator fan was running although the car was still cold, after a few minutes the radiator fan stopped and some of the lights on the dashboard gone off, and I was able to start the car again. I turned off the car and checked the battery connections and cleand them with a sandpaper, I also removed the battery and try to remove its base so I can check if there is a lose cable under it but didn't have the proper tools so I returned the battery and connected it and started the car and it worked fine.

 

Then today, and after 2 days from the last incident, it happened again, the the engine cut off right after it started, I tried to start the car again, it cranked but the engine won't start, a few lights on the dashboard won't go off, the radiator fan was running although the car was still cold, after a few minutes the radiator fan stopped and some of the lights on the dashboard gone off, and I was able to start the car again.

_ After this cut off happen I check the car with a bluetooth device and it throws a lot of errors as follows:

Then after I'm able to start the engine again I reset the errors but still find the following un-resetable errors:

Although the radio works fine.

 

_ I suspected a coolant migration issue but the reservoir senseor cable hose was already removed between the sensor and the harness so it couldn't have leaked the coolant inside it.

 

 

Any thoughts?

It might help if you told us what car it is?

 

So it's an Octavia from 2006... which engine, gearbox etc?
