Diesel subframe

Featured Replies

Hi guys, do any of you diesel owners have exhaust hangers attached to the front subframe? On mine the downpipe has 2 hangers welded to the pipe but nowhere they attach to on the car, I'm pretty certain I've seen a deisel subframe with hangers on before but I presumed it would be a standard fit on a diesel model?

my downpipe is knocking against the subframe so I was try to figure out a way of stopping it moving about. I might just weld a hanger on on figure out a way of bolting one on.

I had two rods bent to shape and welded to mine. My exhaust snapped when I first had the car and the new part had those two hangers on it so to prevent it happening again I had them added to the frame so I could use them. There were photos on here somewhere that I used as a guide but they're probably long gone.

Not all the exhausts had hangers but the subframes do Tom bit hit and miss on which ones had em

Mine is the other way jim, hangers on the exhaust, but none on the subframe.

Same here, as I say.

Been away all weekend but if it'll help I'll try to get some photos of the hangers that I had put on the frame tomorrow. It's a simple addition for someone like you I'd imagine. It's just two offcuts of bolts bent into an "L" shape and welded to the crossmember of the front frame directly above the two that are on the exhaust.

Given that the first cat snapped I think they were added to later cars to stop the front section flexing so much.

I'm probably just going to find a longish coach bolt, cut the head off, bend it to shape, then weld a nut on the end to retain the rubbers, I only need one really but I may as well put 2 on seeing as there is 2 hangers on the downpipe.

That pretty much describes what's on mine but without the nut welded on the end. The two on the exhaust are bent outwards at the front end and it seems enough to stop the rubbers shuffling forward and off the ends.

none off my subframes x 3 have the hangers on them

Above, picture I found on the internet showing oem diesel subframe with exhaust hangers, ive ordered some universal weld on hangers to srick on to mine

Hopefully you can see this. Doesn't show much other than two bent rods welded to frame. Ends are threaded but have never needed to stop the rubbers sliding forward so I never put a nut on them.

I'll get a shot underneath when it's back in the garage which may be more use to anyone wanting to make and mount their own.

Thanks for that, I need to change the timing belt on mine pretty soon, so I think I'll have a go at doing this on mine at the same time.
