The engine range will also include a 1.8 TSI with 260 HP (191 kW),

Don't think that's correct:

Engines will be as follows:

1.4 TSI 125PS

1.4 TSI-ACT 150PS

1.8 TSI 180PS

2.0 TSI 220PS

2.0 TSI 280PS

1.6 TDI 120PS

2.0 TDI 150PS

2.0 TDI 190PS

I would suggest anyone who wants a petrol engine to tell Skoda UK now... VW UK do not import petrol powered Passats and as SUK are an arm of VW UK I'm worried they will be forced to do the same.

I would have considered a Berb 3, but after the way SUK have treated me in the last couple of weeks, I'll be off to pastures new for my next motor, something like a 12 month old Merc E350 V6 CDI will be just fine, even though it won't be factory fresh, I'm not being SUKs guinea pig again, I ordered my Octy 3 on launch weekend, will never again order a new car so early in production run, worst mistake ever, so would suggest anyone considering a Berb 3 gives it at least 6-9 months into production run before ordering so that any bugs in handling, ride comfort, etc, have time to be ironed out.

Good advice on waiting for a few months!  I experienced this some years ago after buying a new model in the first few months of production.  Also, some spec is only added later early production models - I'm sure there are some members on here who bought early mark II Superbs (late 2008-ish) who might have felt they missed out on a few items?

Which is absolute madness as petrol is some 7% cheaper in the UK than diesel yet on the continent it is the other way round !

Conspiracy?

If they're not going to do any petrol Passats in the UK, I really doubt they'll do any petrol Superbs either. Especially not the top end ones. If they did, they would pretty much be pushing VW customers direct to Skoda instead.

Crazy, crazy.

Police like the 3.6 litre 4 wheel drive Superbs due to its all weather capablities and size and are not so worried about the fuel consumption but the 1.8 TSI , or 2 litre with 265/280 hp, would be an awesome tool, once derestricted to allow to go over 250 kph, and the 1.8/2 litre TSI EA888 engined machines should do about 10 mpg better on average than the 3.6 naturally aspirated machine.

Its a pitty that they do not disclose torque figures.

In general it is not so easy to find technical data even of models in production, e.g. Passat - they somehow hiding it somewhere. Also 80-120 km/h figures seems to be confidential info for many car companies :-)

The 190bhp in the Audi A6 ultra has 400nm of torque (up from 380nm in the 177bhp version).  The existing 170bhp in the Superb is 350nm so I'd guess somewhere around the 380-400 mark depending on the rev range??

What I am interested in is the available power at the various percentage of full revs of full revs ie 20,30,40....90 %.

The 1.8 TSI in the Octavia and Superb was, IMO, so goods, as it had 55 hp at 20% revs, biult to 160 hp at 65% of max revs and held it to 90% of max revs, phenominal rev range and through the 7 speed DSG was fanfastically relaxed even at an indicated 80 mph.

A 265/280 hp 1.8 or 2 litre TSI would hopefully get the 8 speed auto-gearbox not the ten year old 6 speed one which deteriates full consumption or the 4MOTION system but then it could get pricey I guess.

If I remember ok, SAAB was the last automaker who had kw/torque curves in their official website for every model. However before ordering my Superb I insisted to get 80-120 times 5 and 6 gear from the dealer. It took time, but they send it for me, eventually :)

Regarding 8 speed auto box - if new Passat does not have it, Superb won't have it either.

190 HP diesel in Passat has 400 Nm, so I assume the same in Superb. I am most interested in 2.0tsi performance. Those 220 and 280 HP versions seems to good to be true, especially having in mind that A6 gets 2.0tfsi with 250 HP or so. How come Superb gets more powerful version?

Expected it would just get the 220 hp TSI at best but I prefered that it would get the 1.8 TSI even with only 192 hp as I prefer the way it revs ie to 7K rather than 6.5K that the longer stroke EA888 does ie they have the same diameter bore and just different stroke length.  The better MPG and smoothness of the short stroke motor is preferable to me and one can always chip to 250/265 hp circa 190 Kw if one is that keen.

The Superb is Skoda's flagship model.. remember the current one is available with 260bhp. They will want the new one to have more :)

Good point.

Given me hope we might get a 260/280 hp version of the EA888 engines which would be peachy.

Rewading Autoexpress they reckoned....

New Skoda Superb: engine range

There’ll be five petrol engines – from a 123bhp 1.4-litre with active cylinder management to a 276bhp 2.0 – and three diesels, from an 118bhp 1.6 GreenLine to a 187bhp 2.0. The UK will definitely get the diesel range, while discussions about petrols are ongoing.

Please, please can we have the petrols?  This is where petrol is cheap !

That is what I put on another related thread but I also missed one point in that the article in that they had not decided which of the petrol engines to bring to the UK.

One presumes they know what they are doing but I would like to see all the available petrols ie 1.4 with cylinder de-activation, 1.8 TSI with say 192 hp and the 2 litre TSI with 270 odd hp.

Expect we may only bet one or two ie the entry level 1.4 TSI, which would still be good with probably 55 mpg combined and maybe the big engine with 4 wheel drive for Police etc to use as well.

Le's hope we see some of these petrols and not just the diesels espicially if the price advantage of petrol remains helping the case for petrol.

I'm pretty sure that they will retain a powerful petrol range topper with 4WD, as this is the flagship model for the brand.

Bhp will need to greater than the last petrol, as this is a new model, and you can't offer less than the outgoing range. And since cars are advertised on bhp, not Nm, and they're binning the V6, then that leaves the 2.0 petrol with at least one turbo.

The benefit of this is that it can be fettled much more than a normally aspirated engine. So I wonder how quickly we will see 300+ bhp and 400+ Nm numbers from the remappers...?

I hope the chassis will be able to cope!

The current 2.0 TSi can cope with 249 bhp & 360 Nm, but since it's only FWD, the front wheels can scrabble a bit, especially in "S" mode.

Modulating the throttle pedal helps, but it's never going to be the fastest car out of the traps, but then it's supposed to be a big family bus, not a sports hatch.....

I do hope that the Skoda UK are allowed to offer some decent engine choices in the next generation Superb.

The petrol debate is interesting,

The current 1.8 DSG appears to be good for 29-34 urban where a CR DSG prefacelift will only return 30-35 and the facelift CR DSG 34-40, all urban cycle in a busy city,

For me if I was buying I'd seriously consider the 1.8 now due to lower purchase costs and no dpf with only a minimal fuel penalty and higher road tax being the penalties.

And that is only half the story.

It is such a nice engine to drive.

With maximim torque coming in at 1500 rpm and revving to 7K is just such a joy.

Linked to the 7 speed gearbox is a great combination too and improves the fuel consumption by 1 or 2 mpg.

Considering the maximum power is produced at only 2/3 revs as well.  This also means that adding another circa 50% more power by remapping is not too difficult to achive.

That's the spec in mums car and I have to agree it for an 1.8 engine feels more like what you'd expect from a V6 in terms of smooth delivery and it is so quiet and refined as well.

My 1.8 is so easy to drive gently, then, if needed, I can put my food down at 20mph in 3rd and it just keeps on accelerating. Prople not used to so much low down torque get a bit of a surprise. I sincerely hope the mk3 come with a decent petrol engine
