1.6 Tdi 105 remap expectations ?

Featured Replies

Have you ever thought that 123mph might be the actual top speed?

It's still only a 1.6 diesel after all, and I'd have thought that the map would be geared to lower down torque as opposed to top speed

Mines seen 124mph and don't think it had any more to give.

Here's the map from Shark Performance:

Here's the map from Awesome GTI after the Intercooler and exhaust upgrade showing 128bhp at the wheels, 153bhp at the crank, which is not to bad from a 1.6tdi. Once the turbo upgrade is on we'll be up to 190-200bhp :)

  • 1.6CR is indeed speed limited (as opposed to just rev limited), this is because of the long gears this engine is mated to, I guess VAG recognised the fact that any extra power directly translates to t

  • Thanks for the replies, seems to be a good gain I was just thinking of a map and nothing else

Fastest will be a remapped estate then and that will be bettered by the rather un aerodynamic Yeti. 200 kg plus heavier. Nothing really, gravity assist downhill, and loads of torque up hills.

A hurricane like tailwind will help many ,then nice narrow tyres with more power will have the drag coefficency dealt with. less down force over 130 mph is always good for flying off the road quicker.

Yep, straight swop

Thanks going to get one on before I get mine mapped

The vRS petrol engine might also be speed limited, especially in view of its less than stellar gearbox durability (7 speed DSG).    Note also that the vRS has actually 6% higher air drag than the non-vRS version (0.34 vs 0.32, refer to Fabia brochure), and that drag alone loses ~10bhp in competition to the diesel one at close to top speed. And the 5mph difference is still quite a lot in power, assuming at this point it's mostly air drag, it's about 20bhp. So 150bhp as shown on a sample map above would be enough.    Finally, my Octavia Mk1 with ~138bhp (remapped TDI110 mated to 6-speed drivetrain from a 130PD engine) was able to hit top speed of ~133mph or so (GPS).   Fabia 2 drivetrain is very similar (many parts migrated from Mk1), drag coefficient is slightly higher (0.32 vs Mk1 Octy 0.31), but frontal area lower, and mass also lower.

Fabia 2 VRS is not a high speed machine as you say, hit 130 and it is like a brick wall with the aerodynamics.  Really need lowering my 25-40 mm to help in this department as well as the body roll.   My gearbox has been fine and would so the expect 200k miles if asked and at least does not have to have oil changes like the wet boxes.

Agreed also the Octy shell is no so inhibited.  The FL Octy 2 VRS was still accelerating like a train with 135 on th clock an would get close it an indicated 160 it felt like.

Sorry but many DQ200 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG have required the Synthetic Oil changed to Mineral & an ECU Update,

& Skoda / VW have not told the owners if this is now it, all fixed & servicing free forever,

or if they are extending the Warranty or going to give goodwill.

So as great as the DSG 7 speed is. que sera sera.    At least you know a 6 Speed wet does need oil changes.

But the six speed always increases fuel consumption where the 7 speed improves it on it over manual and has no servicing costs.

Has someone told you that the DSG DQ200 now that they are changed to Mineral Oil are Service Free,

no costs can be expected from now on?

Please link where that is what VW, Skoda, Seat or Audi have said, or told the customers.

They certainly are very low on fuel use while in getting new Mechatronic Control Units or Clutch packs and you are driving a loaner.

But that is rare luckily.

Only 2.6 Million Recalled world wide and a few thousand in the UK subject to a Service Campaign,

once Skoda let the Registered keepers all know, then sorted!!!

You could always buy mine ;)

Mine does, occasionally, completely lose drive, usually after going from Sports to Drive or the other way and then neither will have drive and then you have to go to neutral and then back to Drive or Sports and it come back, always so far.

Fun at 70 mph or so in the outside lane, hopefully the software upgrade or oil change but it would hopefully take away that annoying "feature".

Like the twin-charge system the 7 speed dsg has been a great, if not quite perfect, technical idea well, if not perfectly implemented, to err is human to really mess up you need a computer.  The dry DSG will live on in polo and below vehicles and the hybrid versions and hopefully be extended to 8 to 10 gears but the supercharger has helped it get that peak torque at such a low rev point and I will miss it unless they can work around with small/big turbo or similar.

Shame the Fabia does not get the DSG except in the petrol hence I would have the Rapid with the diesel and map.

Looks like shark performance is a safe bet using the STS

Is STS available for the 1.6 CR?

Been a long time since I've last posted on this. But this weekend had the chance to get on a dyno. Results from a Superchips remap...

That's definitely one of the higher gains I've seen for this engine in the Fabia I do know the yetis for instance can go higher. Unless your car wasn't standard?

How does it drive? And how much did you pay?

Car was standard, has a panel filter fitted and a remap that's it. Drives really well, every gear still has abit of pull very impressed for a 1.6. Went to Wiltshire Superchips and paid £440 for a bluefin too so I can install standard map when I want.

Very good power from just a map

nice curve too, lots of power over a wide range :)

That's what the guy running the dyno said, happy with it for a 1.6. It isn't rapid but can go when it needs to.

Good result, intercooler upgrade would put you up at 150bhp, beyond that it gets expensive ;)

Think il leave it like it is, lower it next then I think I'm done :) Intercooler off a yeti fits ?

Im not sure, I upgraded mine to an S3 Intercooler which bolted straight on, if an S3 fits the Fabia then logic would say the the Yeti one should too?

For handeling I'd reccomend the Whiteline ARB's as the biggest improvement, much more so than springs. But if you are doing the springs as well then Eibach and Bilsten are brilliant together :)

Never would have thought a S3 Intercooler fits. May do the yeti upgrade eventually.

Have a H&R RARB on atm, got 40mm springs from H&R coming this week hopefully. Handles good now but wanted the arch gap gone.

I'm led to believe that the Yeti intercooler won't fit, you would need one from a Polo GTi/Fabia vRS twincharger

Sure one of the Mk2 VRS boys who've upgraded have one laying around, maybe worth a post in their forum? Cheeper than a Forge etc

Il have to leave any mods for awhile but Thanks both for the input. At least I know what to do next.
