He's waiting, he's waiting, oh no he's not ouch!

Well, haven't posted for a while, as Ive been hiding in the Forest of Dean.....

It is with sadness that Stealth 2's demise is posted... (mk2 petrol vrs)

Driving home one night in the forest, overtook a very slow driver and got back on my side easily enough... approached a cross roads, brilliant visibility, but notorious local accident spot... saw headlights from the right, im on the major road, they are at the nearside junction controlled by a stop line. I scrubbed speed off (60 mph limit), he's waiting, waiting, then with about a second to go, he decided he wasn't waiting... it all went 'best of crash'... Old boy in a Ford Focus filled my view on full beam - nasty enough to see one of those from a distance, not great that close up and with nowhere to go, braked, turned a bit. I hit his b pillar, he span me onto the opposite carriageway, facing the way Id just come.

Airbags, smoke, headlights still on full beam, apparently (but they didn't exist) and the engine almost on my lap!!! Did the old arms fine, legs fine, pelvis fine and climbed out the passenger door, walked around a lot... The other driver had to be cut out by trumpton who got all their toys out. He almost died the next day, but thankfully didn't... couldn't have faced that. Just thought Id share the pics to show how they stand up. Already tested the Mk3 Vrs tdi.... waiting for insurance cheque to place deposit..  Stealth 3 will rise phoenix like from the ashes... She saved my life.. enjoy the snaps taken whilst at the recovery centre...

Yarp, bit of colour magic??? :D

Crikey.

I had someone do the same thing to me on a cross roads once. ****** looked me right in the eye as he pulled out and then claimed he didn't see me coming. Fortunately I managed to just scuff off his back corner before ending up on the grass. Just as well really, as if I had hit his rear door, I don't think his little boy would have been walking away :(

Man you were lucky to walk from that, goes to show how bad a smash you can have at regular road speeds.

Hope the old boy makes it through.

If id been on it, there would have been a focus in two halves....

Are you sure that won't polish out...

Nice that your here to see the funny side.

As a fully paid member of Trumpton, I've cut people out of a lot worse with the forces you've described, so you've done well on that front pal and it seems to have stood up well in a crash scenario! I'm guessing it'll be a no fault on your side, judging that the stop line was on his side.

On a lighter side,... where's it getting sent to cos I could do with buying the driver's side roof rail??!! :D

You walked away from it and the other party is fine - great news.

Shame about the cars - but they can be replaced - enjoy the replacement.

If there's a parts sale, I'd like the driver's (right) mirror glass if it's the self dimming variety, PM your price.

Any crash you can walk away from is a good one, have a good Christmas and a happy new year.

Glad to see you walked out of that one. Modern safety is why I have zero nostalgia for old cars.

Glad you're ok, looks like a nasty one!

blimey,

don't forget a dashcam purchase for your new car, not that i doubt your story, but in that situation i bet the guy you overtook made out you were driving too fast etc when you went past him.

Thanks for putting the photos up, very reassuring. Thank goodness for advances in crash testing durability and safety features. Hope Stealth 3 is as good as Stealth 2.

Thanks for all the comments, its really appreciated. Unfortunately, the car has been deemed a total loss and been acquired by Coparts, so no spares unfortunately. Just got a settlement through slightly north of £7k, so that's the deposit sorted for stealth 3.... Blackspaven, Im ex police, hence the trumpton reference, no offence intended.. :-)... heart rate at scene 62 bpm , with my normal low blood pressure...

The lady I overtook has recently lost her husband in an rtc, so understandable why she was ever so slow. She said my overtake was safe, that I had absolutely no chance of avoiding the collision, but that I may have been driving too fast for the conditions... but that's an opinion.. Im a happy chap that she did her job and protected me...

No brainer to go for a mk3 really...

It is truly amazing how much energy can be dissipated in a few inches. Out of curiosity had the engine and box been forced into the ground?

Even the focus stood up pretty will.

Wow.. Glad that you got out of that one ok!

From what I recall, engine and gearbox have been pushed upwards and backwards to slide up towards the screen...

Jeez, that's made my eyes water............ So very pleased that you are OK, that could have been so much worse. But as already said, a car is a lump of metal and replaceable, you're not.

Hope things get sorted out quickly, and that you're back on the road soon.

Mike

Made your eyes water... :peek:  Looks like my legs rotated up into my pelvis and returned back down... benefits of being a cyclist, as my thighs acted as shock absorbers as well...

I hope they prosecute the other party for driving without due care..

Nope, ;police believed his injuries were summary justice!!!!

Adding to my horrific injuries is the fact I have a Vauxhall !!!!!!!!! Impignia as a courtesy car, with at least 3 1/2 lb/ft, possibly, downhill, following wind, etc...

Ouch, glad everyone is going to be ok in the end. There are just too many people on the road who just shouldn't be driving.
