Can H7 bulbs be fitted upside down?

Featured Replies

I recently fitted 2 new Halfords all-weather H7 bulbs to my Superb 2005. I've just driven in the dark for the first time and quite frankly they were dangerous. The beam only extends about 3ft in front of the car.

Have I fitted them upside down or something? I've just read that the tab should be pointing towards the sky so I'll check them tomorrow but to save me the pain I was wondering if they might just be rubbish bulbs. I was pretty sure they simply slotted in to place in the recess, and apart from the initial struggle to actually reach them, they seemed to fit in place relatively smoothly.

Thanks for any help

No bulbs can only go in a certain way. How much did these bulbs cost you?

If your struggling to fit them you may have seated them incorrectly quite easy to do when struggling to fit bulbs

If the spring clip went over okay, it must be in right?

Halfords bulbs arent up to much.

Osram night breaker unlimited are the way forward

They can sit in there upside down, as my dad found out with some Halfords fitter.

I once fitted a H7 slightly off, so that the tab wasn't in its slot and got the same thing, the beam ended about 3 feet infront of the car.

Only the best jobs ;).

Merry christmas!

H7 doesn't fit upside down, but its quite close.. As in the bulb will go in, but the clip will be very tight.... I managed it with swmbo's 206 last yr, as you a toddlers hands to change them in there without taking out the headlamp... Coudnt figure out why the beam was way too high for about a week... Took one out to check it seated properly. It was upside down...

I use halfords H4 extreme brilliance and they are great so i suspect you may of fitted them slighty cockeyed

I assume you have checked the obvious thing?

The headlight height adjuster on your dashboard, if you have one?

On my Octavia I have 2 small wheel adjusters 1 for dashboard brightness the other for headlight height to compensate for loading. If I turn it to number 3, it reduces the beam throw a huge amount. Silly but worth a check.

I fitted them incorrectly once and couldn't understand it..........until the obvious was pointed out to me!

So I've just been out and tried to fit them with the tab up but there's no way it will go. I tried taking off the clip and turning it round but that wasn't going to work. I tried putting the bulb holder in the recess the other way up, but that wasn't right either.

The only way it all fits together smoothly and without fuss is with the metal tab on the bulb pointing downwards?

I've put the old bulbs back in to see if that helps. It could be that the All-weather ones are just rubbish

Im sure the tab points down on my fabia.

Yeah. See if that helps. Then take the others back and buy some osrams ;)

I tried some of the All Weather bulbs and was most unimpressed with them.

The Osram Nightbreaker Plus or the Phillips equivalent are much better.

My Bosch all weather bulbs (H4 in the van) were proper crap. And they only lasted about 5 months as well, luckily. Now I have some proper Bosch ones in and they're much better.
