Hard Clutch pedal

Featured Replies

Well it seems this awful car has more things going on with it [emoji19]

The clutch pedal is hard and when you get to the biting point it has this gravelly feel under your foot. Also has notchy gearchange.

This has already been looked at by the dealer once who said they can't find anything wrong as there other 2 Rapids they had were the same (BS).

I drove a Spaceback today with 5K miles and the same running gear and the clutch pedal was soft and smooth. This thing is really annoying me as it's not pleasant to drive and I've still have to tell them about the fluctuating fuel gauge too. It's booked in for the 2nd time for the same things on January 6th.

Let's wait and see what BS they come up with then. They've only got one more chance after this and then I'm throwing back to them as a rejected car.

Sorry to hear this - not good at all. What mileage have you done?

To reject, dealer must be allowed 3 occasions to sort without success.

Hope things turn around for you.

Have a good Christmas :-)

Thanks Turboman. I've done 1990 miles. This is going to be there 2nd attempt at the same things. I will tell them the Spaceback has a totally different feel compared to mine. It's like driving a truck but they think there's nothing wrong with it [emoji57]

Both our Spaceback and Fabia TSI's have a light clutch action and smooth change between forward gears; as did a previous Fabia TSI. Only issue we do have with both the gearboxes, is the very odd occasion when reverse seems difficult to engage. Reported the Fabia to the dealer on service but as its so intermittent is was to be expected they found no fault.

Hope you get sorted.

They are not the smoothest of gearboxes for selecting reverse. The Citigo gearbox was a little stiff at times to select reverse, maybe need another dip on the clutch to select. On the odd occasion I've had this with my Toledo gearbox too. I believe no synchro on reverse gear, I'm not sure.

Interesting... have noticed the same 'problem' with selecting reverse on my 1.2 TSi Spaceback... but as you say intermittent, so not what I would class as a problem as such. Otherwise very smooth on bite point.

Every Skoda I've had has had the difficulty getting into reverse but the Rapid seems to baulk in most gears which has to be related to the gravelly clutch pedal.

It's funny you mention a gravelly clutch. Sometimes when I press the brake to slow down it feels gravelly, almost like ABS.

I have had the odd occasion when I've thought that I had it in gear only to find out that it wasn't. Only happens on first and second but it only did it a couple of times and not for a while. The Civic had a dodgy second gear - both of the ones I owned. Sometimes required me to lift the clutch then press it again to get it to go in so it's not just a VAG problem

No problems with reverse. i just always make sure I come to a complete standstill, give it a second, then select and back we go.

Sorry you're having trouble Stormchaser. :( my first car was a 11 year old Fiat Brava, which clutch was so stiff I was convinced I actually gained muscle mass on one leg more than the other. Haha. Everyone who drove it couldn't believe how hard it was.

So my 08 Fabia, and now my Rapid Sport have been the lightest, smoothest things I've ever driven. The Rapid is smooth, consistent and I can be holding it on a steep incline with little effort and it holds and pulls off beautifully.

I've driven a fair few other cars since, Vauxhall, Ford, and Seat and can honestly say Skoda has always felt effortless and consistent.

Thanks for the support [emoji4]

I've been "driving" it tonight like it's supposed to be [emoji6] and that's worn the clutch in a bit better [emoji16]

There's a disused airfield near me so I had a Top Gear moment and I must say that 1.2 gets very excited when you're constantly high in the Rev band. It pulls just as hard as my 105tdi Octavia did but much quicker getting there.

The bad edge has come off the bite now and seems a little smoother but I'll keep a watch on it before I take it back on the 6th.

If you ever get a chance to drive it on a private stretch of road I'd say go for it [emoji106]

I've had this feeling too when you brake going over a man hole cover.

Yes also get that weird gravelly or rumble braking sensation as if the ABS has cut in :wonder:

How queer

I don't get it all the time. Just occasionally
