RIPPED OFF BY DEALER

Featured Replies

Hello Members,

I've just joined and want to share my experience of buying my new Skoda fabia vrs.

This year I thought I would buy a new Skoda VRS, and in June I made some enquiries with my Local Dealer Newcastle Upon Tyne they took all my details colour and extras. I opted for a Blue VRS with white Gigaro white alloys. I opted for the following Extras.

1) Heated Seats

2) Arm Rest

3) Sunglasses Holder

4) Climate Control

5) Sat Nav

6) Rear Electric windows

7) Rear centre headrest.

8) Rear Parking Sensors

9) Front Headlight Washer.

I ordered the car in October and was told the vehicle would be delivered to them by the 17TH December 2014. However the vehicle was ready for collection on the 20TH December which was a Saturday.

I visited my dealer at 3pm as instructed. Took my old car down which was a part ex in the deal ( Jaguar X-type Sport 2.0D ).  I have never experienced a salesman like this guy, he was very incompetent. I checked the paper work and due to him slipping in the Gap insurance without my knowledge, which I had  removed a week earlier  by there Admin from a very nice lady who also let me choose my number plate . The salesman told me that I couldn't choose my number as they were already allocated to the vehicle by DVLA which was a lie,  the Admin lady told me the opposite and let me choose my own which ends in XRS.

On the day of collecting the vehicle I inspected the car and fell in love with it straight away. I then went inside the dealership to finalise all the paperwork. I asked about the Super-guard  Paint cover which was £160-00 pounds in total another item which had been slipped in the final invoice without my knowledge. I thought it would of been nice of this guy to explain the advantages of this cover and its only when I pressed him about the cover he explained. I opted to keep the cover. When you take this cover out they give you a after care pack which contains cleaning cloths sprays and first aid kit along with torch and fire extinguisher. I was told by the salesman they had run out of the pack and that on Monday he would call to my home address and personally deliver it  when the supplies had been delivered to them. I asked if he had the VRS mats that come with the car, again told me they had run out and that he would order me a

set. I then asked if he had any dealer key rings again told run out. By this time I was really getting ****ed off after spending £21,000 on a car and to be treated like this was a disgrace. I left with the car just glad to get out of their.

On Monday I went to the parts department and met a great gut who really knew how to look after customers. I explained to him about the super-guard paint pack which I was told they didn't have. He said they had 20 in stock and that on Saturday if the salesman bothered to contact them they would of put it in my car. The mats you can no longer get so another Lie from this salesman. I took the pack and then left. Never heard from the so called salesman who said he would come to mine with the pack personally again. The guy in service was called Dave great guy to deal with and a credit to the dealership along with the Admin lady who was called Jill, both offered 200% customer care.

After leaving the parts department I visited the showroom no sign of Walter mitty my so called salesman friend. I did however meet another guy by the name of Matt who was very helpful bit alarmed at my experience with his colleague. He gave me the two dealer key rings which were in stock the week previous. Just laziness and no understanding how to treat customers by the incompetent salesman who took my order.

The following days I checked the invoice and to my alarm I found out the dealer had charged me the VAT and the offer Skoda had was no VAT. I immediately contacted the dealer and the flap started. The manager was off over xmas and was returning on the 27TH DEC 2014 I was told he would contact me, which he didn't.

I was in such a panic I contacted SKODA Direct and they said they would investigate. After investigating my concern with the dealer they stated I had ordered the car in June which was a lie. They only took my details as previously explained in the thread at the beginning and what spec I wanted in the car in. I explained I only placed my order in September and due to a clerical error was redone in October  with a deposit on both occasions. The offer started on the 1st September and ends on the 31st December 2014. so I'm  well within the criteria. will wait and see what they come back with...

The dealer is Benfield Skoda their slogan enjoy the journey I don't think so on this occasion I feel very betrayed and ripped off.

Firstly my apologies for the late update the dealer has now returned the vat which should of been £3,200 pounds. they were very clever the £1000 discount which they gave me on the original purchase wa

  • On the plus side if you need any advice on the car whatsoever you couldn't have picked a better forum Keep us posted

  • I have now heard from Skoda UK, and they have now told me that they can not advise or force the dealer to honouring the Vat free offer. As a result of this I am now going to Reject the car. Very bad P

Welcome to the forum.    Sorry to hear this.

But £21,000 on a vRS that Dealers are struggling to get sold for as much as £15,000.  Holy Smoke.

(Super-Guard was just one of many rip off parts of the Deal you ordered.)

When was this car actually built, check that out,

and when was it delivered into the UK?

Thanks for your reply, how would I check when it was built and when it was delivered to the uk.

So this guy screwed you good and proper.

I would put in a good will claim for incompetence, to start with, recovery of interest on you over payment.

At £21k for the new vRS I hope he gave you a fantastic PX value, otherwise you have been screwed on the deal, full stop!

Feel sure you should be able to get some mat from say Hortons shop, thrown in for free by the dealer.

That is total crap treatment from a Skoda Franchise Dealership.

Got the order form for sept and October, they are back peddling hence no contact. will let skoda uk deal with it and await result.

Sorry to hear about the bad service you've received. I bought my Monte from them about 19-20 months ago and got a great deal and service, I mustn't have had the same salesman as you though.

The service department have been excellent with some warranty work and the one and only service it's had so far.

I had a similar experience a few year ago with the local Peuguet dealer in Newcastle where we paid the deposit on a 1 year old car after agreeing the deal only to have the manager call a couple of days later to say the car had been priced up wrong and that the finance deal was only available on new car purchases. He preceded to say he was going to cancel the deal unless we agreed to pay more for it at which point we said we'll see what a solicitor has to say as the deal had been signed.

He eventually backed down a couple of days later but said that we couldn't have a scuff on the bumper repaired as they were loosing money on it, we dug our heals in again and it was eventually done after we took delivery of it.

Stick to your guns and check on the invoice when the purchase was ordered and signed for, I don't understand how the finance amount, if you have finance that is, was agreed if the deal was supposedly VAT free.

Anyway, good luck, I'm sure you'll get it sorted, try and get some recompense for the trouble and anguish caused.

many thanks for the reply, my first skoda and get screwed by dealer.

Don't give up tho,the ownership should be better by comparison

Just keep an eye on the oil level

Will do thanks

If it was ordered then it should be free although it will have to show VAT on the invoice as it still needs to be paid to the Inland Revenue, the 20% is discounted from the list price in order to make it the equivalent of VAT free.

£21k is a lot to pay for the vRS, the final price should've been about £17k with all the options on it.

they didn't take the VAT off and the dealer knows this. so will see how skoda will deal with this.

Me too.

Guy on here was selling his two weeks ago, a year old for £9,500 as that was all he could get in Part Exchange.

Damn! :peek:

If the OP had joined this forum earlier and done some reaerch before ordering I think we could have saved him around £5,000.

I'm sure it's lovely.

But it's still way too expensive.

Glad you like it though.

I'm sure we won't agree as you like your new purchase, but the mk2 Fabia is not better than every Ford or Jag though.

Bit of a broad statement.

You did well to get a mk2 with options as that was about the time they stopped making them.

You must have just squeezed in before they shut the production line down.

So had a bit of a result there.

just managed to get the car will post some pics when the weather gets bit better.

Sorry to hear this, no wonder you feel betrayed! The gap/key rings are the least of your worries. I nearly choked on my beer when I read you have paid £21k for a Fabia vRS. Did you negotiate any discount at the time of ordering or were you happy to pay list price? I'm not sure how you didn't realise the cost of the car until after you had collected it. Were you aware of the VAT-free deal?

Good luck getting it sorted!

they gave me a discount a grand and I knew about the offer and thought they would of been honest to remove the vat but you cant trust ppl these days.im too trusting.

I guess they assumed you didn't know about the deal and thought they could shaft you with a tiny discount. Shocking!

Did you pay cash or finance? I'm still a little surprised you weren't aware of the cost of the car until you checked the paperwork a few days later tho. It's worth nailing down the cost of the car before even considering putting pen to paper on an order form :-)

I knew about the cost,as I added a lot of the extras. I checked my deposit and trade in deposit along with the discount.the only thing concerned was the vat so that's the issue at the moment.
