RIPPED OFF BY DEALER

Featured Replies

I knew about the cost,as I added a lot of the extras. I checked my deposit and trade in deposit along with the discount.the only thing concerned was the vat so that's the issue at the moment.

I would have thought they would have given you a finance quote at the time of ordering the car which may have shown the VAT knocked off? If so this will be useful evidence for you, if the quote they provided didn't have the VAT deducted then that should have set alarm bells ringing I guess.

Either way it shouldn't matter if the VAT free came in before or after you ordered the car you should still be entitled to it!

When I ordered my first mk2 vRS in 2010 it was before the VAT-free deal. The VAT-free came out before my car was delivered so the dealership simply swapped me over onto it saving me some extra cash over and above the original discount I had negotiated.

Can someone please explain.

?

Is the Equivalent to the VAT Free part only coming off the difference due on the Cars cost.

difference between value of Trade in, & Car, & no VAT Free on the Optional Extras?

eg,

Is it £15,000 car,

trade in of £5,000, so no VAT on £10,000 ,

& Optional Extras are charged at full price ?

my understanding is Vat free of total cost of new car then trade in value comes of and optional extras are included in the vat free deal. if someone can shed further light on this it would be good.

Crikey what poor service

I can't understand how you could only realise that the car was 20% more expensive that it should have been a few days later?

It seems like you had your pants pulled down my friend

Ive just bought a new VRS estate - picked it up 2 weeks ago. I only paid about £13k for it!

The price is discounted by 20% as if it was VAT free, it's got nothing to do with trade ins or deposits. It explains in the literature that it's the equivalent to a 20% discount off the list price so the price you pay is the same as if you weren't paying VAT.

The discount always used to be VAT off the car and optional extras, but now it's just the car.

I bought a few where it was VAT off the whole lot.

Please note

* Reduction equivalent to the VAT element of the RRP. VAT is still applicable and will appear on the invoice. Offer available on current ŠKODA Fabia retail orders placed by 31st December 2014, subject to availability. Offer excludes ŠKODA Fabia Hatch SE 1.2 12V 69PS model with metallic paint and spare steel wheel £9,595 OTR and New Generation ŠKODA Fabia models. Prices and specifications are accurate at time of print. Discount only applies to the base price of the vehicle. Optional specification not included with this offer. Offer may be varied or withdrawn at any time and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. Participating retailers only.

So is the 20% only taken off the OTR Price of the basic car,

excluding the optional extras, metallic, white Gigaro etc etc are not discounted (reduced) by 20% ?

No, basic price of the car before OTR costs.

You still pay VAT on reg plates and delivery.  As well as on options.

Vat is off the complete car price including extras so say £10000 so car is now 8000 ish with vat taken off. Trade in car is say £2000 towards payment of vehicle. So you now owe £6000 for your new car. Plus having to pay on the road charges of tax if applicable and registering of car with dvla and issuing of plate

£21k..... erm.... yes, if you need any advice about the car this is the best place to get it

In all honesty, return the vehicle to the dealer if you can and get your money back. Then buy a brand new one with the same options for £15k and enjoy £6k to spend on whatever you fancy!

I have now heard from Skoda UK, and they have now told me that they can not advise or force the dealer to honouring the Vat free offer. As a result of this I am now going to Reject the car. Very bad PR and Customer service.

Didn't somebody mention a link that referred to 'participating dealers only'? Was yours a participating dealer?

What you sat down and agreed to and signed for is surely very important, the most important part.

?

Was there an Agreed Purchase Price for the car,

a Build Price from the factoryn& a Discounted Price as would be delivered to you OTR, & a 'Price to pay'?

Then was there an Agreed

Trade in Price on the Trade in.

That's an easy get out by dealer and Skoda.

Again an inconsistent "small print" variation to a national High Profile Marketing Sales Ad.

Crap PR /CUSTOMER COMMITMENT.

You may not have grounds to reject the car, the rejection process is usually due to faults or defects with the car itself. Even then the dealer has to be given the chance to rectify those faults,

Assuming the car is on finance you do not want to reject the car, but exercise your right to terminate the finance agreement during the cooling off period. If you paid cash things are more complicated. You'll not get all your money back as you have had some use of the car, so a pro-rata deduction will be made for mileage on the car.

Technically you have not been ripped off, what has happened is the invoice was not read before being signed. The details were on the printed/written sheet and you should have checked it all before leaving.

You do have a strong case however, go armed with all the paperwork you have to the dealer.

Ordering another one with the same spec is no longer an option, the MK2 Fabia is now out of production and the only cars available are those already in the system.

I have now heard from Skoda UK, and they have now told me that they can not advise or force the dealer to honouring the Vat free offer. As a result of this I am now going to Reject the car. Very bad PR and Customer service.

That doesn't sound good if Skoda UK aren't willing or able to help you out.

What price was shown on the invoice/order form that you signed on the 18th October? If you were aware of the VAT-free deal at that time I would have expected you to see this all fully included in the paperwork at that stage.

If the price you agreed to was the full 21k then I guess the dealer is within their rights to shaft you on it although it's very harsh indeed!

There is another Member with i think it was a nearly £23,000 Mk2 Fabia vRS Hatch.

Life Shine, GAP, Service Plan, Extended Warranty (A must buy on a new order, real VFM)

Options and the likes adds up, and can soon overtake 20% discount on the List Price, excluding Extras.

To be fair, the way an invoice is laid out from the skoda dealer in my personal experience is rather complicated over several pages and leaves you asking questions so that you end up relying on them giving you honest answers. In my personal experience, I got passed from sales person to finance, then back to sales and then manager to answer another question, then the same again when collecting the car, if it's not a process that you undertake regularly then it can be a bit of a rollercoaster ride, one of which I found rather uncomfortable. If I were to buy another Skoda or vag group car then I would approach things differently but what's done is done and if it didn't go well then it can leave a very bitter taste in your mouth. On the flip side of the coin I bought a Suzuki s-cross for the misses in march two months after the Skoda rollercoaster and this time round I was ready for the ordeal but to my very pleasant surprise Suzuki have different process and I delt with one person from start to finish and the paperwork was extremely clear and easy to follow. And as a package its a better car!!

I only dealt with one person when I bought the Monte, most of which was via email. The 1 page invoice was signed when I went in to take a test drive and pay the deposit. It couldn't have been easier really and unlike Peugeot, the finance admin fee was included in the 1st DD and not an extra.

Need your help guys. I have now heard from Skoda UK and they are now saying the VAT free offer didn't start until 1ST NOV 2014. I was told by them on the 23RD DECEMBER 2014 that it started on the 01 SEPTEMBER 2014 However it was up and running on the Skoda website in OCTOBER. So if any one hasbought a car in OCTOBER with the VAT free offer please message me or if they have seen the same offer.

Someone is seriously back peddling, who the hell do you trust. Its wearing me down all this **** over VAT...
