Try a search on '2.0 TDi PD oil pump problem' that should give you some interesting reading. I had considered the Octavia estate with this engine but having read up on it am not considering it any longer! Your post in the Octavia section of the Forum might get a better response. Good luck.

Hi Jayne we actually owned a A6 2006 with the 2.0 tdi blb engine. I coverted from chain to geared drive and upgraded the balance shaft oil pump module myself.

You will have no problem buying a octavia due to balance shaft oil pump module as the engines are the same as golf/a3 dont have one pre 2009. The 2009 on CR engines may have them but they will have an upgraded 100mm hex driveshaft that gives more drive area, as i retrofitted in the A6, ive not heard of these failing.
