Fantasy Green Fabia! (aka Richard rip-off)

Featured Replies

Yes. I am insane for buying a minty green Fabia. I needed a car cheap and it was local. It needed a new clutch, and new headlights. It is a little bit tatty but useable. That was, until I'd driven 50 miles, and the head gasket went catastrophically. I didn't want to repair the engine as it had 140k on it, so sourced a 60k-ish engine from scrappers and got that fitted with the new clutch. Car now drives spot on and just needs new headlights and a few little odds and sods doing. Pics to follow :)

Update. Added remote locking. Car came with a knackered remote key, so I programmed a spare two button flip key I had. This is difficult with only one physical blade cut to the locks so I had to remove the drivers door lock and turn it with a screwdriver to mimic the procedure for key programming. Just needs a new blade cut and swap over the transponder chip for fully working rcl and flip key :)

Watching with interest, as a future owner. ;):D

Hands off :P went to the scrappers today to pick up some fitted rubber mats I'd seen and some other bits, and the car had been crushed :/

No, why?

No, why?

It wasn't meant like that, more as in shocked at the scrap yards practice. Were they alerted before total damage was done or is it a total loss

Are you getting confused which car had been crushed?  He'd only spotted some mats in a car in stock at the breakers, but that car (which belonged to the breakers) had been crushed when he went back to buy them.

Always with scrappers, it is best if you see something GRAB it, as they don't often hang on to cars.

Sorry for the confusion haha. Yeah as devonutopia said the car in stock at the breakers was crushed. It was the car I bought my second hand engine out of on monday, went back today and it was gone lol.

On another, unrelated note, what colour is the drivers side window switch meant to illuminate? My window switches and lock button are red, but all the rest of the car, including passengers side switch are green. Does this mean that it has been replaced?

Sounds like it might have come from a polo?

Could very well have been. On the look out for a set of both switches then, as my passenger one only allows the window down, not up. Have to do it from the drivers side lol

Replaced the radiator, fan switch and expansion tank today. Then drove it on its first proper journey with the new engine and cooling system. It performed faultlessly over 180 miles of motorway :D now just 180 miles back tomorrow.

New ones or from the donor engine car?
