XENON LIGHTS WITH AFS II

Featured Replies

Hello to all.

In my octy II have xenon lights which have the AFS II functionality and self levelling projectors.

I just wanted to know if anybody knows if the system appart from the bending functionality which is clearly shown, how can I understand that the beam patterns are produced and working correctly (like Hella says) 'city pattern', 'motorway' etc...?

Is it so smooth the changing between patterns which are not seen to have difference among the standard beam?

Also once in past, I readjusted the projectors' standard position , is there any way to get it back to factory position? I had done it using the VAGCOM for passing the command to make the system learn that New position.

Thanks for the help and opinions

The MkII Skoda Octavia gets AFS 1...

Xenon AFS 1 = sideways (dynamic/bending/cornering) + height adjust (load level at startup only).

Xenon AFS 2 = range/length/weather adjust + sideways (dynamic/bending/cornering) + height adjust (load level at startup only).

MkII Superb comes with AFS 2 (bi-xenon).

MkII Octavia comes with AFS 1 (xenon).

Skoda have in several of their brochures over the years incorrectly claimed that the Octavia is equipped with AFS 2, I understand that this is not the case.

Thank you silver.

But mine is the MK2 facelift 2009, I think it was upgraded the system from AFS I to AFS II, am I wrong?

Yes it is not bi-xenon. ...

As I understand it the pre-facelift MkII Octavia does not have AFS.

My 2008 Octavia (pre-FL) has factory fitted xenon's and they do not move left or right, just up and down.

The facelift (2009>) then got AFS 1 and benefitted from the dynamic / bending / cornering feature.

AFS 2 was never fitted to the MkII Octavia, at least here in the UK (despite what Skoda claim in their literature).

I'm happy to be corrected though!

Is AFS 2 on the new MKIII Vrs with Bi-Xenons ?

You can see the AFS 1 feature here. Note the rectangle cut-out right next to the projector, it is this element that allows the projector to move left and right.

This is the only external clue that the car is fitted with xenon's (quite a few UK models get the headlight washers even without xenon's).

This is why on the pre-FL it is impossible to tell if the headlights are xenon or not simply by looking at them externally, they don't have AFS so the main headlight components are the same on both the halogen and xenon equipped cars...

Hey Andy, yes you have the very latest bi-xenon headlights.

This means that both dipped and main beam are xenon (unlike the MkII where only dipped beam was xenon).

They are also AFS 2 so you get the range / length and weather features too :sun:

[emoji52] .. I will finally agree with u silver!

Thinking it now better, I have never been able to recognize how and if the beam patterns would change in front of the car by the mean of speed variety or weather conditions.... I had a suspicion that the system would not be working correctly/malfunctioning.

Although I have never been in a car equipped with AFS II system, I am concerned not to know how it behaves or works...

Fancy I had been in contact before with a person from Hella Greece to ask few things but I can admit that not remained satisfied from service..

May I ask if you know where can I find help on how to readjust/raising the beam higher? There are couple of screws in the back of the headlight and what direction to turn.

Also the kind of hid bulbs been inside (colour temp, lumens etc.)

Would appreciate any info.

Thank you.

Notice I have VagCom 704.

I pretty know that cable could do the job and get the system into learning mode so then to load in memory the new standard position.

Have laptop Win XP.

The only thing i don't agree is the load level at start up, this will work at start up and after when car is running and loaded enough to lower lights

You need bulb type D1S, it is detailed in the owners manual.

OEM is 4300K.

I agree, the load is observed continuously even in bigger up-downs of the rear tail..

No - it isn't.

Self-levelling cannot cope with "up's and down's" during vehicle motion. The system is simply not quick enough to make on the fly adjustments.

The self-levelling system is there for heavy loads that would cause the lights to dazzle - nothing else. There is no adjustment whilst you travel uphill or down dale.

There was a thread on that very subject about a year ago - many people think/assume there are adjustments going on constantly, it just doesn't happen.

If you start the vehicle and then heavily load the rear then yes, it will adjust.

Thread revival time!

Just searching around for info on my new car and thought I'd revive a thread rather than create a new one.

According to the vin search I got for the car it comes with AFS II. So does the FL Octavia have AFS II or ist this a mistake? It may be that it's a German market difference.

@Phil-E - Stock behaviour is AFSI only but AFSII can be activated in most cases.

From when I did it:

Perfect. Thanks.

I'll have to wait till I have the car and check the coding then.

😁👍

And with regards to having to do the basic settings on the lights... Is my logic sound that if I park on a flat surface towards a wall, mark where the lights currently sit, do the basic settings and then adjust them to the marked position that this would work ok?

That's probably good enough.

Obviously it's best to pop to a garage with headlight alignment tools as there is nothing to say they are currently correct ;)

True. I'll wait till autumn. They do a thing here at the garages "light test" where they offer a free checkup of headlights, alignment and all other light functions before winter. You then get a sticker to put in the windscreen to say it's passed. Or they then only charge a small nominal fee to have adjustments made 😁👍

So I've scanned the car and I have the required 5M0907357C Module.

I've found some info from a German site with the coding I need to change (the current coding there is the same as my car- LHD, 2WD, German market).

I just need to find somewhere flat in front of a white wall to park so I can set the lights afterwards!

I don't think it's mentioned in the other thread but I believe you require an AFS master which has software version 0148 or later. The version is printed on the sticker on the unit, which is located behind the climate control panel in the dash.

You can see the following two have the same part number but the top one is software 0142 whereas the bottom is 0148

Used Volkswagen Golf VI (5K1) 2.0 TDI 16V Computer lighting module ...

Control Unit VW GOLF VI (5K1) 2.0 R 4motion VW: 5M0907357C VW ...

Ah, ok. No way to view the software version via VCDS or only looking at the module.

VCDS scan will show the software version

Cool. I'll do another scan tomorrow and see what version I have.
