I know some people who have asked dealers (after they bought cars with leather) to check whether it is a

I just talk to one of them and it is a problem of material, it is not leather it is material

similar to leather while in the brochure it is stated that it is a leather.

it is so called (in some countries) eco leather

Funny enough this topic is up...

Went downtown to check how much it would cost to retrim, and he asked if I wanted real or artificial leather, and I asked him how much the difference is, and he gave me the figures, but then he continued to add that in this country it's actually better to put in the artificial leather because of the effect the heat here has on real leather. Showed me an S55 AMG that had just been retrimed with full on artificial leather, and I must say the guy did on hell of a good job on it.

In GBP it only costs about 250 for all seats and doors.

I can imagine real leather just drying out & falling to bits in those temperatures - also it's fairly dry I suppose :)

What it says in the brochures doesn't mean anything. The small print states that Skoda reserve the right to alter the specification at any stage. I'm sure that also applies to the type of leather. Mil is right. After a year or two, real leather can look like **** all even if you treat it.

So where did this thread start? I can't find what it is really discussing, can only assume it is saying that 'leather' is not really leather in the Octavia! If it isn't then what is it?

Expatman, just go with the flloooooooooooooooooooooooowww...........

I thought the seat faces were leather but the backs and sides were artificial? Atleast I'm sure this is the case with the Mk1 Octavia.

If I'd paid for "leather" and it came as artificial stuff, I'd certainly be complaining... Surely the trade description act will apply here...

You ought to get what you paid for, but I wasn't impressed with seat leather anyway, in my old Primera GT - I had the car 5 years and it tended to look bad where the edges got rubbed near the door, as you dragged yourself in and out. The fabric part seemed to keep better, and felt warmer [sort of more welcoming!] Also I didn't much like the strange combination of black leather and white mesh whatever-it-was in the last vRS seats. So personally I wouldn't order leather seats where it is optional, and certainly not to pay more for it.

My new 2.0FSI has comfortable black fabric which suits me just fine.

It's cruel to cows too. Long live the cow!

So you're giving up steaks then?

I wouldn't say that. If someone wants to skin em then i'll eat em. Every cow product I eat was taken from a cow AFTER it was skinned. The poor bugger was dead anyway.

Just tell me if I am swimming upstream, with the flow or drowning. I have an Octy L&K on order for delivery early November and now don't know what I am getting - real leather, eco-leather (what is that?) or a plastic imitation!!

Well, if you're getting Eco-leather, it's all good for you :) Much more durable than real leather, and it looks like exactly (and feels exactly) like the real thing.

I think that to some degree it can be called a plastic imitation of leather or leather made of some other material than leather

It is called in some countries as

Don't think that would apply in the case where you're paying extra for "leather" and could reasonably expect to actually get what you're paying for rather than an imitation of what you paid for. I'd be complaining, if only because there's a good chance of getting a load of cash back, whether or not the "eco-leather" feels and looks the same ;)

I think this is correct but I will stand " Corrected " if not...Did Skoda use some Imitation Leather Called " Alacantry " or somthing like, that My old Octy vRS seat backs were covered in it

As far as i'm concerned when something is discribed as leather it can only be one thing, the hide of an animal. If it turns out that my seats are covered in nothing more than a bin liner I'll certainly be taking this further.......Are you sure this isn't a wind up?????

This happened on the R32 when many owners found out that the leather option described as "full leather" was actually just leather faces with the rest being faux leather. I think everyone that complained got some money back from VW.

Crickey, it's a good job we're not dealing with fur, isn't it!!

I'd be mighty ****ed off if i paid for leather and got leatherette.

They would have to use pretty strong bin liners for car upholstery and it would be very unpleasant to sit on it in the summer.

Dead right. We wouldn't like it if the 150bhp engine we'd just bought turned out to have been re-specified to 85 bhp. At the very least, the supplying dealer should state at the time of the order that the spec had changed, and possibly ask the buyer to sign that they understood and accepted the change, and the price involved. I doubt they'd get away with it in any other field against a decent lawyer.

The leather on the mk1 octy vRS is facings only, the sides and backs are vinyl. The difference is easy to spot, especially when cleaning them as the leather and vinyl react differently to the cleanser.

The same thing in my mondeo, the facings are leather but the headrests and the sides/backs are all vinyl.

The Boxster is all leather, including the door cards and dash, but thats a 4K option at the factory.
