New Top Gear 2015

Featured Replies

Although I think they're stubborn saying it cannot be tested on the top gear track, I do get the fact they don't want a "regular" P1 to go against a souped up non standard la ferrari because it could affect potential sales if people think "wow that ferrari is much quicker than the P1". It does reflect well on porsche's belief in their own product to say they can go anywhere anytime though.

Loved that bit at the end when they spilled the beans re Ferrari and McLaren squabbling re test conditions LOL.

I'd agree that Pug sketch was a tad long but still had good laugh with my 12yr old son :)

Nobody mentione The Vette! It was sweet.

Actually, colour me cynical ;) but it occurs to me that Smith SPA could use GPS to tell the "the Smith" where it is at Fiorano and actually have it driving itself a bit there, but they maybe can't do that for every race and test track in the World.

As for the Chevrolet X-2-Zero, it is indeed the "best sports car to come out of the Yousay" but will it still seem better than a Cayman in 5 years when half the interior falls into your lap?

I must admit I'd go for the Cayman any day as this is the best value for money dream car of mine. I will own one one day that is certain:)

Still, the Vette looked splendid, especially it was so quick around the test tract and woithout having the car properly sorted that is not possible. Cannot comment on the interior quality but this one looked well put together.

I love Top Gear, but, the Pug bit just dragged on and on, I got the joke, but they laboured it out, it became boring.

I thought the same, I thought it started off well as I knew nothing of the Peugeot 504 and would have preferred they would have spent more time on their glory days particularly with the 205 T16, the 405 Turbo 16 GR or Loeb's completely insane Peugeot 208 T16.  They had a shot of that on the Top Gear track but only for the magazine it seems, would have loved to see more on it.

With regards to the supercar hybrids I was amused at them going on about about the problems setting lap times with the car as it seems to have been rumbling on that way since McLaren proudly boasted they'd set a faster time on the Ring and making a prominent video about it yet never released the lap time or the video.  There were some rumours the car was running out of battery power round the track unlike the Porsche which supposedly has better regenerative systems and a higher battery capacity but McLaren claimed not and the reason is they don't care about Ring lap times and by not releasing a lap time they are being more responsible in discouraging an arms race around the Ring.  I know which makes more sense from a company that released an advert boasting about how they'd managed a sub 7 minute Ring time, I vaguely recall something similar about responsibility coming from Ferrari as well.  I don't know which would be quickest round the Top Gear track but given it's short with slow corners, I suspect the Porsche's four wheel drive/steering system would do well and they were the only ones not objecting to a lap time.

I was going to say it's not even as if the lap times matter as any reviews comparing the Porsche and the McLaren favour the McLaren for the way it feels but then I guess the figures are important since most people will rarely even see one of these cars in the flesh never mind driving or even owning one.

I love that Corvette even though I've not been that much of an American car fan, they raced a GTE version at Le Mans and those lights with the exhausts and terrific engine noise never got old.

John

Peugeot piece is 15 minutes of my life wasted. Complete pony.

Couldn't agree more

They coulda done so much more with that item, history of peugeot and new 208gti 30th edition review maybe?

Over silly joke dragged out, even my 8 year old slagged it off!

Not to mention it's very very rare I see a peugeot driver doing stupid things on the road anyway

If they aren't already, then those 3 hybrid hyper-cars will all be sold out anyway! Plus I doubt it's going to put people off a particular one - the price differences are huge!

That Ferrari is possibly the nicest car I've EVER seen or heard! :)  I was sat on the sofa with goosebumps watching and listening to it! It's what should be pinned up in the bedroom of many a 10 year old lad's bedroom!

JphnMcL, I see what you're saying, but Fiorano is only about 1.5 miles ( my guess; Wikipedia says 1.862 miles ) round.

I think this series has been brilliant so far!

We had many laughs at the Pug segment, people will never agree on 'how long' they should of kept the joke going for. Personally I didn't want it to stop!

But that's entertainment for you . Top gear do it pretty darn well!

That La Ferrari though...    I want that rectangle steering wheel!

People do mistake it for a serious motoring programme but it is a very light Sunday evening entertainment.

It always cracks me when each time they drive any rwd performance car around their track they always have to drift it around lol

I used to drive a Peugeot (the most reliable car owned to date by the way!) and still found it funny!

This was at 12 years old and 150,000 miles, the only fault in that time being a burst radiator hose.

Drool away to your hearts content lads!

I don't think they do anymore, problem is I'm not sure it's that entertaining anymore either. Found myself clock watching more than once in the last couple of series thinking 'when is this going to end'

I've found this series much better compared to previous ones, it seems to me they've perhaps listened to "some" of the criticism of late and addressed some of it.

The Peugeot piece went on too long for me, I got the joke but it got boring in the end that I switched over for a bit. SIARPC has actually been ok so far this series, I do normally switch over at that point but I've watched them for a change.

Was the "testing conditions" part re the Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren just a bit of delaying tactics by TG - I can kind of see where the manufacturers are coming from, neither wants to lose do they? I think it will happen, possibly last episode?

Didn't the Austin Allegro have a square steering wheel?

Just sayin'

Actually, that was where they started to lose me, since they'd found someone even more annoying than James Blunt!

Howling with laughter at tonights episode.

Richard Hammond throwing a knife at an effigy of James May;

"In the C OCK! HAH. Haa!"

This is what TG is for. Not some carp about mpgs and value for money etc. It's for the laughs.

Nice to see Gillian Anderson on there too. Still fit :)

Really enjoyed tonights episode although the Lexus bit was a waste of time..

Skip the Lexus, but Hamster up Wolf Mountain is pure comedy gold.

Yeah,it perfectly matched the other 4 wheels on the All-Aggro'...lol

I'd prefer it If it just became a car orientated version of last of the summer wine. I enjoyed the Hammond up a hill bit. Stupid harmless fun of three blokes arseing around. Nothing wrong with that, but I wish they would scrap stars in the car. yawn.
