Poor MGP 1.2 hpt1

Hi,

Just bought a 57 plate HTP 1.2 fabia. Can you get the dashboard display to show mpg. It seems to indicate in the manual you can by pressing a button on the right side wind screen wiper arm switch. But mine does not have that button.

My dashboard just shows time at the top, trip mileage in the middle and tital mileage at the bottom.

Thx

Unfortunately not, the best way to calculate is to use the trip computer between fill ups

  • If the sensors have packed in, I'd never have to service it again? muwhahaha

  • AFAIK Uk spec 1.2 htp engines do not have the oil quality/level sensor fitted and do not support variable service intervals, certainly not on 08 year.   Poor fuel consumption and lumpy idle are typi

will let you know how I get on!

Ok thx, how do you reset the trip computer, so it starts from zero each time you make a journey? And I'm guessing you need to fill the tank right up. How many gallons or litres does a full, tank hold?

Thx

The HTP was given an overhaul though.

Not sure if the revision included the sensor.

I'll ask when i take mine in for a service

lovely

Didnt know this.

Was the mpg, overall mpg, distance travelled etc etc brought in with the facelift then? Learn something new every day (:

He must have the S model which does not have the trip computer.

With regards to fixed/variable servicing, I got a new HTP last March and that is on variable, so considering I only do about 5000 miles a year then that will be at the 2 year mark.

MPG wise I got around 44MPG in the summer and this has dropped to 40 in the winter, which for an engine that is still running in is not bad.

I see (:

You should expect a few more mpg once run in

Mines got 15k on it now and i love in a very hilly area. 50mpg is achievable if im steady.

I'll confirm whether it's a spec or facelift thing when I pick mine up next friday

Re the variable service and going 2 years until getting oil and filter changed. If only covering 5,000 miles a year, I would be serving and maintaining a car annually at least. Mechanic or diy,, not leaving brakes, steering etc for 24 months.

If it was a VRS I would agree. Although I do a low annual mileage I think its enough to keep the cobwebs at bay, I rarely do very short trips where the engine does not have a chance to warm up. And I would hope that a brand new cars steering and brakes wouldn't require any attention for the first two years either!

Being a vRS has nothing to do with it.

Because the Engine has a Supercharger & Discs on the rear does not change much of the Platform or Mechanical Components.

some are actually just as rubbish as on other Models and prone to corrosion or lack of protection from Road Salt etc.

Until 6 months ago i had a Kia Picanto that i owned new from 2006 and it had 27,000 miles on,

I have a 14 YO Saxo with 46,000 miles & a 11 Year old Suzuki with 46,000 miles all bought new.

Steering & Brakes especially need checked and maintained because low annual mileage is not great on Cars or Engines, or exhaust systems.

Because of people thinking new cars are OK for 2 or 3 years is why so many fail the first MOT.

& as for Skoda Servicing,

If the Wheels are put on at the Factory and not possibly removed before 2 years they are likely to be difficult to get off the rear.

& the Fixed or Variable service might mean they are not off the car,

& even some 3 year olds have never had the Road Wehels off even though the Drums should have been off and cleaned.

VWG Servicing & Oil & Filters, Visual Checks and Inspection Servicing is Look See & Checking Tyres, & Lubricating Locks often, and Reporting.

You trust it is getting done.

Never looked at from new until 24 months old is a strange set up as far as i am concerned.

But each to their own.

Volkswagen Group cars have often the same parts VW, Skoda, Seat & Audi,

it is a shame that not all the Manufacturers websites and info as the same as Volkswagen's own information to owners.

1st year main dealer service is little more than an oil/filter change and windscreen washer topup!

AFAIK Wheels are never removed from the car at any service, unless you request/authorise a brake /disk/pad/shoes change.

My first job on taking delivery of a new fabia is to remove all wheels, paint the drums and clean/very lightly grease the wheel/hub interface.

An Inspection & Report requires the Technician to Inspect & Examine.

Skoda Main Dealer Major / Inspection Services should not require the Customer to ask or Authorize removing the Rear Wheels & Brake Drums.

& it is a rather amazing Fitter, Technician , Mechanic or DIY Mechanic that car Remove the rear Drums without Removing the rear Wheels,

& that is part of the Major Service Schedule / Guidelines with VWG on cars with rear Drums,

then there is a Service Schedule on Brake Fluid which was first at 2 years & is now at 3 Years.

Picked up my 1.2 HTP Combi today, managed 53 mpg on the drive back :D mix of motorway, city and A roads, mine has an MPG calc, average speed ect for 2 possible driversm, this is for a 2008 model, so I assume it's the base spec that doesn't have the trip computer since mine is the 2/ (prelift) SE version.

Good to hear.

Enjoying it?

The 1 and 2 in the mpg isnt drivers.

1 is on that trip. This resets after 2 hours after the engine is stopped.

2 is an overall mpg of the car over the last few K miles. This doesnt reset itself

Is it just the one tankful that returned the 33mpg?

You might have nudged the expansion tank button withe the fuel nozzle which allowed more fuel in the tank than usual, hence making it seem like a very poor mpg reading if calculating it manually. Obviously the next tank will be unusually high mpg balancing the two figures out again.

Just a thought?

Yeah it's alright :) weird thing is when pulling away the engine grumbles abit lol as if it'd rather go to bed :P but generally not a bad cruiser, don't notice speed as much since the engine is pretty quiet generally and aha that makes more sense lol :) interesting, so now I can accurately track my journey time :) and specific journey mpg and overall, not bad, not bad at all :)
