Top of wheel is leaning out

Featured Replies

My front wheel is leaning out at the top, I did hit a curb and bent the wishbone, which I have put a new one on, any advice on what else to check out for please? I have got some pics of it too.

You can see in the pics the tyre is sticking out at the top on the left side, other side is fine.

Has the alignment been checked since.

No I did a diy tracking on it, the ball joint will have some adjustment on it tho?

Not much if on standard wishbones rather than cast alloy type. To be honest, I would be inclined to suspect a bent strut or hub. How fast did you hit the kerb at roughly?.

As has already been said, unless you want to change random parts until you find the cause, a four wheel laser alignment check would be next on my agenda.

I hit it about 15/20 mph if that, I just caught it at the right angle I think, ok I will see if anywhere local does 4 wheel lazer alignment.

You could try Apex in Peterborough, I think they have 4 wheel alignment for a reasonable price. However, without going to a dealer I don't think it will be easy to find out what's wrong - even then I wouldn't have much confidence and it'll cost you £70+ just for them to measure it.

Personally, I would strongly suspect the hub. However, if you're handy, if it's a bent strut you should be able to test it - ie take it out, remove spring, push the top in, rotate the inner tube 180° with respect to the outer tube and try again. If there's a big difference in force to push it in, or it won't go in it will be fairly conclusive. You can get the strut and spring out without removing the hub nut if you use spring compressors.

Yeah, if the wheel was bent when it hit, there's a good chance you need the outer hub housing/bearing as well as the wishbone.  A bent hub isn't an easy spot.  Hopefully the strut survived OK where it connects to the hub.  Did you renew the steering arm / tie rod on that side too in case it took a bit of a hit?  Steering feel OK?

Well I could get a hub and strut cheap, I had a look at the top mount just below it  has a mark where its hit the car mounting, I only got a new wishbone, steering feels ok but I did have to fit my winter 16s on but now have the spiders back on so will see how it feels in abit. Will try to find someone closer to king's lynn for 4WA
