Back to stock. Threads created selling springs and shocks. Oddly no interest here but quite a bit on e Bay. :wonder:

Didn't want to put it back to stock as it was so good with them but thought it best to sell everything separate. I know how much I need back for the suspension and priced everything fairly. Car will be for sale until the end of the month.

  • I've FINALLY sold my fabia vrs!!    Still think it was a bargain to the bloke who bought it!   17,500 miles. 2012 (62) immaculate condition and all for £8,500.   I'll be sticking around on Bris

  • You can not have it both ways, sellers getting great selling prices and buyers of used getting great bargains.   As to anyone buying a used vRS needing their heads examined, if they know what they

Feel free to come examine mine, I bought a used VRS and as it stands was a great decision, much fun had for not much money. Felt sad trading it in.

ive had loads of problems with mine but I still regret nothing. I will not be trading it in when I get a new car in 3 years but will be keeping it for multiple reasons. 1. It's a beautiful car. 2. Can't beat the faces of the 'it's just a fabia' group when you leave them for dead off a set of lights and lastly I doubt I'd get much in 3 years. I think I cut a good deal when I bought it 14 months ago. £8995, came with heated seats, reverse sensors, cruise control, Amundsen (upgraded to Columbus now), armrest, Bluetooth module, all electric windows and only 13,700 only the clock. I think I'd now be very very lucky to get even close to that back.

Does anyone think the value will dip and probably pick back up In a few years and then hold? Or is that just me?

I did a WBAC valuation exercise last week purely out of interest - I know they will most likely knock something off but even allowing for that the price offered was pretty decent (they actually came back with an improved offer and extended the offer period). My extended warranty is up at the end of September so very sadly* I'm going to have to have to part with the car one way or another in August (although I haven't totally ruled out keeping it - I'm sure Preston Motors mentioned something about dealers being able to offer the Car Care Plan warranty for further annual periods - not cheap on an annual basis but still cheaper than switching cars).

*I'll be gutted when the day comes but I suppose we all have to move on at some point. However, I know I won't be able to get a similar spec of car for what I paid for the vRS back in 2011 :(.

Brian your car will be 5 years old but low mileage, are you not considering extending buying a further warranty,

but since you have a good car, there is hardly any need.

George, it's definitely an option. If I can do something through Henry's that will increase the chances. I know what you're saying but with DSG and the twin charger I'd still like the peace of mind of some sort of warranty - chances are I'd be fine without one but if something does go wrong it could potentially be very painful!

Where you might get an offer for your car that might be to your liking is at a Seat Dealership.

If you want to buy another slightly used car as a keeper or for keeping for the next 3 or 4 years,

against a Leon Cupra 280 DSG the cost to change can be interesting.

But once you have driven one, nice though they are and faster, you can get back in your vRS that is worth £7,000 and costing

you very little now, and maybe just save on spending the £14,000 they want and drive the Devil you know.

If the car you've got is a non oil burner and running nicely with no niggles and you'll loose a lot of money , why get rid of it ? For the money you''de not get a car which will give you such wide smiles at that kind of money, it's apparent that there are a few VRS on the fourecourt so your chances of getting a good deal are quite slim, personally I'd keep it if made me smile and didn't have the oil issue ;)

There is one issue really.

As much as i am a fan, they do start to self destruct as the OEM suspension gets towards 5 years old if they have been running

on 205/40 R 17 tyres.

Some upgrading might be required as 4-5 Scottish Salted road winters take their toll on the Exhaust, brakes etc.

But the few hundred pounds as anything needs replaced is a small amount compared to the depreciation on a new car.

There are some nice new cars coming out this year and early into next year, maybe nicer than are currently on offer.

Plus there are nice bargains coming up now on Demonstrators and the likes as Manufacturers and Dealers need to compete.

There's nothing wrong with stock suspension just that Eibachs and Bilsteins are fantastic and my next car will have them too. Saying it "self destructs" after 5 years isn't right.

I'm selling because I've been offered something special. There's no Skoda that's anything like it and it isn't new either.

"they do start to self destruct".   I should have said, Some hatch vRS might start to self destruct, because they do.

Sorry but you do not have a hatch built in spring / summer 2010, ie near 5 years old and going to go over 5 years old,

so that is what my comment on the suspension refers to, cars going over 5 years old, and suspension getting rather worn out,

even with low mileages.

& the Estate has and had different rear suspension to a hatch, and did not have Ballast Weights added to the rear crash bar.

Also you changed the suspension on your less than 4 year old Estate, even though you have now changed back,

so Apples & Pears really.

Come on, spill the beans!

Not getting anything until everything starts to sell. I can get the new car now but I'm not until the vRS goes as what will happen is I'll use the new car and the vRS would sit at home not being used.

Logically I shouldn't sell the vRS as it's been fantastic and isn't costing me anything. But I was reminded again lately that life is too short. Got an opportunity to get something great so why not.

Your avatar can't be doing a huge amount to help the sale I wouldn't have thought :)

Your avatar is a pig, does that mean anything?

That picture was an autocar test of the mk1 back in 2003

I had a silver MKI - I certainly never managed that in it :( !

Excuse my total ignorance on this matter but I assume the 1.4TSi is chain driven? When does this need replaced?

  • Author

It's chain. Shouldn't need changing. Family has owned other cars with chains and as long as they are regularly serviced its fine. We've never had to change one.

That's certainly in its favour for me keeping it then. I've paid for a couple of expensive cambelt changes on VAGs in the past.
