Recent Fabia Selling Experiences

This is NOT a for sale thread but I'm just curious as to how Skodas, particularly the vRS are selling at the moment. It's been over 4 years since I sold a car and I remember it being a painful experience back then. Much changed?

  • I've FINALLY sold my fabia vrs!!    Still think it was a bargain to the bloke who bought it!   17,500 miles. 2012 (62) immaculate condition and all for £8,500.   I'll be sticking around on Bris

  • You can not have it both ways, sellers getting great selling prices and buyers of used getting great bargains.   As to anyone buying a used vRS needing their heads examined, if they know what they

Feel free to come examine mine, I bought a used VRS and as it stands was a great decision, much fun had for not much money. Felt sad trading it in.

Id imagine theyre selling better now theyve stopped production, to those who want a Twincharger?

Then again. Anything sells at the right price doesnt it

I think the prices are low at the minute Martyn.... IIRC there was a 2013 car on sale for £9500 ! :o

Not well I'm afraid. I didnt get a great trade in price for mine, but I went there knowing I wouldn't.

There are a fair amount of them for sale at the moment both private and trade which is pulling the price down.

I full expect to have lost half its value in 3 years as that's normal. Was offers 7250 6mths ago at Seat but when I sell I'm not part exing against anything as the car I've seen is private. Do dealers buy back cars? I remember a long time ago getting leaflet through the door saying they wanted good stock.

I couldnt say, the dealers aren't stupid, thy will want cars they know will sell, but the amount of used VRS's on their forecourts may put them off buying a car off you without getting you into one of theirs.

Car Dealers and Car Traders do buy cars,

and they might offer you eventually just above what they see WBAC will show them, (forget Glass or Parkers Guide)

after offering you just below what WBAC shows.

It is highly unlikely a Skoda Dealership will offer you more than WBAC shows if you are just trying to sell & are not Buying.

Seat Dealership were more inclined to take a Skoda as a Trade In,

but are unlikely to Buy one unless it is really cheap.

So maybe Adverts on Briskoda, Gumtree & Local Papers are maybe the best idea,

or try some local Independent Dealerships, or Kerb Side Autos.

Or someone selling a car they can not sell,

that will take yours as a Trade in that looks like for a good price.

The dealers have had a purge on the CAVE engined cars, its so obvious, look at the stock list and the ratio is mainly post 2012 cars now.  Ridiculous value too, theres a 5 month old white with 50 miles on the clock for 12995.

It looks very much to me like they are outing the problem ones to the trade instead of keeping them.

I still remember my Mini JCW, i bought it from the dealer in Farnborough for £15450 in January, ran it till Julywith 8000 miles covered and a fair few trackdays, then needed the cash out the car.  Went to my local dealer in Maidstone and his first offer was £15k, eventually he gave me a cheque for £15350........ I'll never get a car as good as that ever again.

You have to remember that these cars are 3 years old or more now, so most wll be trade ins for 3 year PCP or HP deals.

My old CAVE engined car sold within a month of it going up for sale with the Williams Select group (Where Williams BMW sent it after trading in the VRS and buying my car from them)

So they do sell, just to the right buyer....who doesn't read car Forums haha

i hear you, but up until november last year there were hundreds of 2010/11 cars, it really looks very obvious that a decision has been made at the top to out them from the dealer chains.  Makes a lot of sense to me, just look at how many non VRS 2010/11 cars there are to see what i'm saying.  none of those have been shifted out due to age

You are probably right, I used to keep an eye on the amount of used VRS's in the Skoda network. Before I bought mine in 2013 they were 25 or so, lst time i checked there were over 100! I think I even made a thread about it on here! They will just sit on the forecourt for a set amount of time and then they will be sent off to auction.

I guess it just proves at there isn't much demand for MK2 VRS's.:-(

Autotrader has always been constant for over 2 years with around 100 vRS advertised at any time.

There are cars for sale on the Skoda Site Used Cars that are not on Autotrader.

Seeing as there are so few vRS Estates from 2010-2014 there is people on the look for them at a good price used,

and Dealers that might want Estates in their stock.

Less than 100 Hatches & Estates advertised today.

Cheapest Asking price, 11 reg 38,250 mile S2000 hatch £5,995

Estate @ £7,988 Asking, 60 Reg

I have 3 years servicing and 5 years warranty on CTHE and I do wonder how much will I be getting for it on two years time with 1 year warranty left on the car?

I'm back home Saturday so I'll pop in to see what they give me. It needs a good detail but that's all. It's the dealer I bought it new from and got serviced again just last week.

I have a question, might be a bit off topic. Basically i have a black monte with an hid kit, interior leds, red painted brake calipers, chrome indicator bulbs, led number plate lights. If i was to part ex my car or trade it in, would it be worth less than the same car but with everything OEM? So me adding all these "mods" to it, would the dealership see the car as less valuable rather than the same black monte but with everything standard, would i struggle to trade it in or should i remove all the "mods" before hand? Thanks

I'd remove the HID kit before trading it in, they're illegal anyway.

All the other bulbs wouldn't make a difference, IMO. I traded mine in with them.

They arent illegal. But we wont go into that here.

I too would remove the hid kit and leave the rest, never the less.

I would probably remove the hid kit yeah, and i could remove all the leds and stuff and either sell them or use them in the new car, wonder how much my car is worth atm, not thinking about trading it in lol only had it 4 months but curious of its value, about 4500 miles 63 plate, no extras included (no sat nav or maxidot etc etc)

I think its best not to look ang9444, cars change in value continually and you never make on them unless you have something rare!

I have looked recently at prices of mine, and its quite sad really, lost 1,000s over 2 1/2 years and also spent a lot on it too, though its got to be done.

Well mine isn't rare but i think it was limited edition or something (black edition so not as common as other colours) so i dunno if that adds any value to it..doubt it though

Tbf. I think mines lost about £4k atleast over the 2 years

Mad isnt it, really.

Edit. Maybe £5k. Thinkin about it.

Yep its not nice Otaylor :(

Yep its not nice Otaylor :(

Not at all. Can think of better places to put my money haha.

Skoda second hand values are atrocious. No one want to buy a second hand skoda more than two years old, especially old superceeded models.

Value of a 3 year old example is typically 30% to 35% of new (vat free) price, and doesnt include options which add zilch to the resale value. TBH anyone buying a second hand VRS needs their head examined. Any mods are likely to devalue the car further.

It certainly looks that way xman - the last few trade in's I have done, have been less than £1000 which is depressing. I was debating about selling privately though I know there will be lots of tyre kickers and people picking holes!
