Pre fl drls

Featured Replies

Can u have the standard fogs set up to run as drls ? And will they run at a reduced brightness ?

Don't want fit fabia drls as don't have time or funds to do it :(

Just woundered if it's poss cause was gonna replace the bulbs with led versions I have found any help be great

Yes you can, at least on most pre-FL MkII Octavia's.

Someone with a better knowledge of VCDS will be along shortly to explain the coding!

I run mine as part of the Scandanavian DRL setup. I think the coding was in the central convenience or central electrics module and was basically enable Scandanavian DRL (Tick box), enable DRL using fogs instead of dipped (Tick box) and then set DRL at 50% brightness (Enter the number you require). The downside of this is the side lights are also on with the DRL's.

Yes it's possible via VCDS use Scandinavian or North American mode the enable fogs as DRL and you can dimm them in the last  setting

I'm running mine in North American setting too

I've just done this on my 2008 Scout.

I activated North American mode (DRL's on when handbrake released, off when handbrake applied), then ticked 'use front fogs for DRL'.

I then reduced the brightness from 92 (max) to 60 and they look great.

There are no other lights on (no dipped headlights, side lights, tail lights or number plate lights) just the front fogs as DRL's at a reduced brightness. It therefore looks very OEM.

The only anomaly that I thought would annoy me was the on and off with the handbrake. As it happens I now love it, instead of powering on with the ignition and then dimming / flickering when the engine is started (and putting extra strain on the battery) they don't come on until the exact point you set off.

Likewise if you are sat in the car with ignition on but without the engine running you aren't draining the battery. The amount of people I see in lay-by's fast asleep with their DRL's on.

North American is a way to go :).

Though, I think that for DRL-s 40% brightness is enough...

Handbrake off can be a little annoying only when you are in the traffic and for example you have to stop on a hill. Of course you get your handbrake on for easier start and DRL-s go off. Sadly, I did not find solution for this...

I did notice that despite being able to select the brightness between 1 and 92 there are actually only a few different levels of brightness.

I couldn't see any difference between selecting 40 or 60.

I wonder if there are only two or three different levels of brightness, 1-30, 30-60, 60-92 for example?

The setting you choose also depends on the fog light, those fitted to the pre-FL vRS and Scout appear less bright than those fitted to the standard Octavia.
