locked in car!

Featured Replies

Pulled up on drive, unloaded some shopping stuff, closed drivers door but didnt lock the car. Few minutes later went back because I wanted to clean dash and inside windscreen. went in passenger side, closed door and maybe 30 seconds later central locking activated. Now I thought doors would open from inside but no, so locked in car, no mobile phone or keys on me. Luckily wife came out after a while to see if I wanted a cuppa, so she ended up having to unlock with remote to get me out. At first I thought she was just playing silly beggers but the keys were in my coat, lying on bed where Id left them. Anyone fancy giving this a try see if its a fault or just something with this car?

I have heard that you can open a car using the remote over your mobile phone if you are talking to somebody obviously near the car. I tried it with my wife and her car.

Yes I've heard same, but in this case the car locked out without anyone touching anything and unable to open from inside. Not sure if same would happen if id entered via drivers door?

Do you not have the inside unlock/lock controls on the drivers side door? I thought this was standard on all models

not sure the unlock button is operative once the car is deadlocked, or some enterprising yoof would defeat the deadlocks easilly

yes but they dont work without the key in ignition turned to 1st position. Maybe someone try it see if same happens to you but make sure you got a helper to get you out!

drive out in car with no passengers

park up switch off and exit with keys but dont lock up

wait 5 to 10 mins

give your keys to helper or leave indoors

get in passenger side close door

see if deadlocks auto lock (maybe 30 secs?)

Have fun trying to get out..........

I don't understand how the car locked itself just from you opening and shutting doors.

And do we have to be in the car to try your plan? Or can we just go back to the still unlocked car and just open and shut the passenger door.....

I still can't get my head round this, I cleaned my car the other day, unlocked it before I started and an hour later I went to open the door (to see if it was locked) and it wasn't locked still

should imagine trying opening and shutting passenger door would be same effect, ill try this again tomorrow, see if I can get it to do a repeat.

Hyphons. I presume you must have opened one of the doors during the cleaning session causing the autolocking to be disabled?

Just by unlocking the car and no doors opened it would definitely lock itself again [emoji6]

microswitch bust on the door and did not sense door opened, so autolocked itself when door shut?

I tried again tonight but it was fine, still wouldn't trust it though.

Glitch.

Are you sure someone didnt pull a fast one, ie. Wife or child pressed the lock button on the remote once they knew you were in the car without a key.

IMHO; Think your wife is pranking you mate :)

The only time the car will self lock is if you unlock the car and fail to open a door within 30 seconds, it auto relocks. The other is when you pull off and get above 5pmh it can be set to autolock.

Probably hear your "lock in" on radio 2, in a years time, on Simon Mayo's confessions, when your wife decides its about time you knew the truth ;)

I reckon the missus sat or put something on your coat when it was on the bed?
