windows 8 password stress!

Featured Replies

new computer , forced to sign in to some microsoft crap to log in, that now seems to be my forced password for the computer.... seems to rely on an internet connection to let me in! **** no! how can I make this a password operated computer LOCAL, not needing net connection for verification?!

thanks!

I don't recall the exact process, but when I first used my new netbook with windows 8 I set a microsoft identification and a separate password to log in on start up.

Can you go into users in control panel and set up a new user then delete the original?

You don't need to set it up with a MS account. You can set a local account without a password.

I thought this so turned off wifi but it still logs in without being connected to the internet. I assume when you set it up in that way with a MS account, it saves the authentication info on the laptop.

If I remember correctly, when it asks for a microsoft ID, there is a 'I don't have one' or 'Create one' option and from there you can say don't use one.

Not sure on the easiest way of delinking it once it's set up to use a MS ID, you could try this that I saw on another forum: Start Screen -> Account Settings -> Your Account -> Disconnect

Yes that's how you unlink your MS account from the computers local account.

My girlfriend recently got a new laptop and did just this even though I advised against it!

..I think it were a week before she changed back :P
