Clutch slip after a new gearbox fitted

Featured Replies

So my cars running around 240hp and 350lbs of torque with a cg motorsports clutch and it was running perfect! Not a fault wrong it and no problems with the clutch handeling the power until today :( I had a new gearbox fitted with a lsd tonight, went out for a nice drive after fitment and I now have clutch slip :( could this be due to the mechanic fitting the box? He's a friend of mine and I watched him do it.

He wouldn't have needed to touch the clutch just to swap the gearbox. Bad luck.

Might be slipping as now putting power down to 2 wheels?

I was going to say the same as above, the weakest link gives up first, in your case it sounds like the clutch.

I take it he never touched the clutch?

Just incase it might be contaminated or somthing.

No touching of the clutch at all :( he didn't rebleed the clutch if that matters? Just transferred all my parts and topped up the fluid?

I would have said it could have had grease or something on it from his hands, but as stated above, the clutch wouldn't have had to be touched.

All I wanna do is get it ready for Nurburgring in the summer and then I'll be splitting and selling it, but I keep getting problems :(

Ooooo, I want to go round it too this year :)

Surely he would of had to disconnect the system to take the box out / swap slave cylinder ect .... So it would need bleeding afterwards ... That's where id start easy quick and cheap

Please explain how bleeding it would change how the clutch behaves when the pedal isn't touched?

Well the clutch now seems fine... Went out to fill up driving normal not going over 2.5k, then coming back I gave it a bit and it was fine!! Pulled well so I carried on and went for a brisky drive and it didn't slip once!!

Possible contamination that has burned off now then :)

I hope so :) I could really smell the clutch burning and even after leaving it an hour before going out again to fill up the cabin smelt of clutch, just getting used to the lsd now :)

Which LSD did you go for? Makes a hell of a difference to how the car drives having one fitted.

Watch out on your first overtake.  I nearly crashed my car as it leapt out to overtake with the diff. :D  It took me totally by surprise.

Haha I will doo :D

. As if there is air in the system the salve cylinder can't / wont operate to its full potential so the clutch can't fully engage and disengage possible to cause slip drag creeping loss of gears ect ........

No, air in the fluid will only affect how fully the clutch disengages.

There's possibly a Brisky Nurburgring trip happening this year... keep an eye out!

As above, lsd is great but just take your time getting used to it paul :)

As different cambers/white lines on the road etc can make quite a difference when gunning it

I will certainly look out for members when I'm out there :)

It already pulled me into a corner in the damp! It's an amazing part! And I've Barley used it! I can see it easily catching people off guard tho, the lsd works when giving it some doesn't it? Not at low speeds (when power is requested) I put my foot down last night in the damp expecting it to twitch and pull me about but it gripped well ( I read quaife were twitchy?)

I've noticed a massive difference with my diff fitted, pulls you tighter into the corners when you put your foot down, had it nearly catch me out a few times when I've pulled around a roundabout onto the bypass.

Worked wonders in the snow this morning too.

I think the quaife is a tad more twitchy with how it shifts the power about, but it is less harsh and more progressive than a plated diff I believe.

I've driven my car hard in the wet with the diff fitted and TC on still and you can feel it shifting the power side to side when a wheel starts to lose grip.
