The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Featured Replies

Have had my VRS TDI DSG Estate for 4 weeks now.  Below is the Good The Bad & The Ugly so far:

The Good

- Has not missed a beat yet (touch wood)

- Great handling

- Very economical

- Love the ACC, Kessy & Park assist

- DSG (Fantastic) - saw one UK review that absolutely bagged it and they would never buy a car with it.  (I think there were on Ice when they did the review).

- Columbus with Nav (excellent)

- Xenon lights & rain sensing wipers excellent

- Space(Enormous)

- TDI engine (sweet)

- Many others

The Bad

- Road noise on rough surfaces (can live with it as I play my music loud)

- - No lane assist & traffic recognition in Australia

- Sat nav does not work with voice control in Australia.

- 7 month wait for the car

The Ugly

- Skoda Dealer experience. (woeful).  When the car was delayed they told me if I did not want it, that's fine, we can sell to someone else.  Not the right attitude.

- - No lane assist & traffic recognition in Australia

No camera at the top of the front screen?  If there is these functions can be coded with VCDS.

I had already posted a reply which disappeared.

I agree 90% with your findings, me being many miles away, and with a different configuration.

The ugly is surely the Skoda dealer, the extra S-L-O-W Amundsen unit (with a totally useless voice control).

Yes I do have a camera on top of the screen.  I am new to all this so I don't really know what VCDS is.  Will look it up on google.

Don't worry about the lack of voice control. You'd use it once then forget it's there.

It always annoyed me that my BMW had the voice control button on the steering wheel, but it didn't have voice control.  Now my O3 has voice control, but I never use it because it's far too much hassle... and so it still annoys me that there's a button on the steering wheel for it because it could be space for a button that did far more useful things.  I'd like a steering wheel 'vRS Mode' button, rather than having to reach down to the console, then tap the screen... just having a 'vRS' button that puts it into Sport would be nice.

Great news!  VCDS is basically a PC based tool which lets you change options in the car's ECUs to enable such things as lane assist, cornering fog lights etc.  For the cost of it (get a proper Ross-Tech one) it's worth having one.  Otherwise find someone near you who has one and buy him a couple of beers.

Thanks Smeghead.  Have looked at Ross-Techs website and will have to invest in one.

If you go on the  Australian 'VWWatercooled Octavia' Forum you will probably find someone local in Melbourne.

They have a special VCDS section as well http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f153/
