Which is affordable to a surprising number of 20 and 30 somethings with good jobs that want a quick car with history and kudos.

I've got a good job, and could probably afford the monthly payments. But it's not just the price of the car, it's insurance, tax, fuel oh and pairs of front tyres that all add up! Haha

I'm just jealous as I went for the sensible option for my current car....

  • You'd have to be a bit daft to think there won't be. Ford has (unlike other car makers) realised that loads of people remap and found a way to influence what people do to their cars. At least by off

  • This is my one, love the little beast.

  • Makes you wonder why so few makers do have an approved remap available. You'd think it would be better for VAG to be involved in a safe remap for it's products that just leave the door open to a mult

Same here, I could have afforded a car like this in my early 30s but I had a company car until I'd turned 40, some good, some not do good; but even if I'd had the car allowance there were for me other priorities, mortgage holidays, other hobbys, I collect bikes, guitars, camera etc. I also enjoy going out to dinner, buying tons if wine so it's not just a case of having enough potential cash flow, it's the proportion you choose to spend. When I first started running my own car I made a couple of poor decisions that were not great value for money, so it's only now I can start thinking about indulging myself in several "interesting" cars.

A divorce mixed into it doesn't help either...

Onwards and upwards Steve, been there and worn a similar T shirt!

Enjoy going forward!

My point was that just because the car will be expensive doesn't mean it won't sell.

And it's not probably out to sell in the thousands anyway.

It just needs to act as a halo car and get people talking about Honda again.

Absolutely, and that's the main reason for these Uber hatches.

Very true,

So we need to either;

- Buy Dacia's

- Or design and manufacture tyres designed to be sketchy and not grip much.....

That sounds like the kind of advice they give out on Top gear.

I'm quite excited by the Honda and that Merc is something special, the only thing I don't like about it is the possibility that I may never get to own one. That makes me sad but I have the Pulsar so not all is lost.

Maybe not such a bad thing.

I've driven and test driven a lot of modern fast cars.

Nothing handles like my Skyline, rewards you when you do well and bites you when do wrong.

In a word, modern cars are "safe".

Just registered my interest for the RS3 on the Audi website :)

I agree, I've always leaned toward the older cars.

I've not be as fortunate to have drove many cars, only the ones I have. My favourite was the mk2 Golf 16v It was such a fun and rewarding car no abs, traction control or anything just you and the road.

Very much looking forward to putting the Pulsar through its paces once the weather has cleared up, but it'll only be a Summer/weekend toy.

Do you still own the Skyline then? I'm assuming you mean the R33? I saw the video you put on YouTube, looked very fast a much fun.

I've got a 530bhp R32 Skyline of the GT-R variety.

So four wheel drive like yours.

It's the smallest and lightest, they got bigger and heavier afterwards.

Very nice so it has a pretty high power to weight ratio then plus plenty of grip.

Yeah the Pulsar has 4 wheel drive I think it's based on the atessa system that's in the Skyline's, not as sophisticated or as robust but still quite effective, obviously suffers from transmission loss but you gain in other areas as you know.

Wonder where the petrol version of the Focus ST will be in terms of price and performance etc.

Forgot that I'd seen this :http://www.carbuyer.co.uk/news/142577/prices-announced-for-new-ford-focus-st

Will there be a mountune package available?

Just spec'd up an ST3 diesel Navigation Estate on DtD and it comes in at just over £22.5K!! That's a whole £3K cheaper than similar vRS CR Octavia estate.

Were I in the market, I think I'd find it hard to justify the Skoda premium.

Very true!

Marketing genius!...

Make's you think why don't they just make it that quick to begin with?

Charge them once for the car.

Charge them again to make it that little bit faster... That they should have made it from the beginning.

They don't because they know a percentage of owners will want to make their cars that little bit faster or handle that little bit better.

You'd think it would be better for VAG to be involved in a safe remap for it's products that just leave the door open to a multitude of independent companies.

While it may be viewed as Ford charging you twice, the alternative is just not giving the customer what they want and letting potential income go to waste.

Because Fords are not detuned to make a remap viable.  They are competitive with their competitors without the remap.

They are just sensible enough to think "Well, if people are remapping we might as well have a bit of the action and control what people do to the cars"

Stever750,

It's a shame for you that Seat don't go it lone and do similar, if they are not having the 296 PLUS for a CUPRA R

Exactly, I wasn't saying that the Fords are under paced to begin with, we all know and can see that they are right up there to begin with.

It just make's you think how much quicker they can make them from stock.

If a man on an industrial unit can squeeze 20-30 BHP from the same engine.....

More manufacturers should do the same as Ford.

I was looking forward to going to try the Mondeo 2.0 Hybrid Auto Saloon & Mondeo Estate 240 ps Auto  today,

but Snow stops play for today and tomorrow anyway.

I want to see how they are on a nice dry clear road.

EDIT PS.

Just as the Snow came on again the postie arrived.

This months 'Car' Magazine.

First feature to read is.

'Me vs The Worlds Best Rally Car'    VW Polo.

Twingo v Up!

then the Long Termers

Audi S1, Golf GTI, M3, Vovo V60, Octavia vRS Estate, Fiesta ST, Leon Cupra 280 etc

Morning sorted.

I think the Ford Mountune deal is similar to the AMG / Alpina relationships. I think the manufacturers are missing a trick given how popular remapping is. The manufacturer will be able to produce it much cheaper than any independent (everything else being equal), so would be a potentially lucrative business at a dealer level. In VAG's case, given how common their engine range is across the brands, and the one design fits several models, many of them are under-stressed so uprating them adds no more risk than is inherent in the higher performance models, so the warranty cost delta is probably disproportionately increased; unless of course they have a major design issue, but that could happen anyway.

There is some tenuous links for aftermarket tuning, for example the VW racing bits that probably have a tacit approval, if not covered by the original warranty.

What is this month's obsession with fuel economy? vRS and 280 fleet updates, that's all they mention, apart from how noisy and fidgety the Octavia is.

I like the article on the Citroen DS.

Official Abarth Tuning parts like Suspension & Brakes come to you in a nice Wooden Crate.

Warranty protection as well with the Power Hike parts.

PS

Re Economy,

The last Euro 5 & first Euro 6 engines might well be the new cars to buy,

before the new Euro 6 ones come out after October 2015.

Then we really will be hearing nothing but C02 g / km and such stuff.

I reckon the honda will be around 34-35k. It's funny how cars are getting faster and more stealthier speed cameras are installed and new ways to monitor speed are thought of. Surely all car companies will reach a point where they can't or just won't make faster cars as it will be pointless...? My opinion anyway, maybe they should make more racing tracks because people get tempted on the roads

Best look in the Autosport section and sign up to the petition on support of Motorsport Tracks.

Because people that move to houses near Motorsport Tracks that have been there for decades complain about noise and there

are likely to be less Tracks not More.

Even when every vehicle in the UK including those still in Motorsport is Electric & on ECO Noiseless tyres, they will complain about the Wind Turbines spoiling the View and the Noise.
